Well, we are having quite an eventful week, here...

Meet "Hera"!!! She is 26 weeks and 6 days old... and today, she laid her first egg! Hera is one of our two Midnight Majesty Marans.

She whack-a-mole hopped in and out of nest boxes for 3 hours nonstop before choosing one to lay in.

Unfortunately, her nest preparation involved laying down and spinning like a tornado which removed all of the bedding from underneath her... so when she laid her egg... it cracked. :hmm:confused: Hopefully she gives up her "nest tornado" tactics for future eggs, LOL!

Here is her almost perfect first egg - 51g!

oh no on the cracked egg. :( how sad but hopefully she figures that out. Wow again I am so jealous of all your new layers and wow such BIG first eggs! all my girls still hang around the 47-49g for the most part. Hummer will lay a 50 here and there but that is it. I can't wait for my other girls to lay but thinking I still have a bit of time for that even though on 1/8 they will all be 9 mo old!

Hummer hasn't laid since 12/21. :(
Are you thinking about giving them a string light on a timer for the mornings? Maybe it is just the time of year, idk. I am not sure if these other girls would have started laying or not without the extra morning light... but it's not a LOT of extra light... so idk.

I am surprised by these girls and their 50+ gram eggies... Silver and Hera are both pretty large, so that's not as surprising... but Catelyn is quite petite (I'd say half of Hera's size) and she laid that 52g yesterday which blew me away. I'm interested for her to lay again and see if it's the same size or maybe the first one has 2 yolks or something... it just seemed really big for her little body

Oh my goodness, she is precious! And what a lovely little egg. Its perfectly egg shaped :love what type of chicken is Nugget? And what other girls do you have???
Nugget is a Golden Laced Sebright. I have 2 Black Cochin Bantams in with her. The Cochins I know are ready to lay but the roosters have been fighting over Nugget today. It is also smaller than my first egg was from my 1 1/2 year old Cochin Bantams. It is a little lighter in color also. We may never know! This is all of them in one picture. Yes, I cropped this to get the pic from earlier.

Here is the egg in a regular bowl to give more understanding of its size. I am a kid so my hands are small.
