Nice:thumbsup
Friend of mine is big into bird hunting, he takes his well trained Lab with him.
This past fall he drove out to Montana from CT to do some hunting.
Apparently Montana had a really bad winter or something so no birds were to be found. 3days one way on the road with his dog to go there. The camp never told him a thing until after he got there. He won't be returning to say the least.

That’s too bad.

Shipped eggs have arrived all 18 in good shape. I have them now sitting in the foam carton pointy end down. The carton is laying flat currently in my basement in a dark spot. How long should I leave the carton flat before I start daily tilting of the carton? I think incubature should be in mid week so now I have time to kill. Should I candle them in a couple days to check for cracks and aircells? Also if I find cracks, what do you think about me using some of my kids Elmer's glue over the crack. Saw the glue trick mentioned on the video @aart linked in a previous posting. Or should I just chuck the cracked ones if any and replace with my eggs. Getting eggcited now!! :wee

Candle the air cells carefully now, checking for cracks and to see how “wobbly” they are. They should be stuck to the fat end. Sometimes shipping cause them to “float” and cause what we call a saddle. Think of a water balloon when you tilt it, the air bubble moves. In eggs it shouldn’t move, but jostling and handling sometimes break it free.

So if you candle now and they look all secure, you can start tilting any time. If they are saddled, wait a day or so and check them again, but leave them sitting still.
If they are really bad, and the air cells are totally detached, give them a couple days to re-seat before tilting them. :)

I don't incubate cracked eggs. You'll have to do a search on that...have read of candle wax, crayon, super glue(maybe), nail polish. I guess if I cracked a viable egg mid-incubation I'd probably use beeswax as that what I have on hand.

All the eggs it is pretty obvious which end was the pointy end. One of the 18 has me stumped. Heck if I know up from down on that one.:idunno mirror image in my eyes anyways. I'd cull that hen just because.:rant:lau I'm thinking to myself the seller sent it just to mess with me. I tried to candle it with no luck finding the airsack, figureing I'll just put the airsack up. Nope !! Well I picked an end and called it pointy hope I was right. What the heck do you do in that case?

I get those rounded eggs. But I can always find an air cell. Give it a couple days, then re-candle. You’ll find it before it’s too late.

Cracks... I have had the best luck with paper-ish fabric-like medical tape. Still lets the egg breathe, but holds it together. Also doesn’t melt! :D Just try not to clog too many pores.

I dropped a duck egg on top of another, in a hens nest. Cracked the one on bottom. Taped it and it survived a couple weeks that way. Didn’t hatch, but she lost several.

One of my Black Copper Maran’s lays an egg like that. She always has. As said above, I can always find the air cell.

I’m with you on that. I tried a few times a long time ago and they didn’t survive incubation. I have a God’s plenty anyway so I toss them. But in the case of buying eggs, I definitely see the reason of one wanting to.

Earlier you mentioned washing the hatching eggs.
Dont.
If they have poop on them gently use a small piece of sand paper to remove it.
Washing the eggs removes natures coating that keeps bacteria from entering the egg.
I too have had those eggs with no clear pointy end. Make a guess and give it a try.
