It has begun

Yes keep the newly hatched chicks away from those still zipping it waiting to zip.

Had a small scare Saturday. While we were at kids basketball games, a bad storm blew thru. Snapped a power line pole. We lost power for at least 3.5 hours. Incubator temp for down to 91. Took another hour or so before got back up to 100. Hoping I didn't lose any.

 They should be ok, look at it just like mother hen getting off the nest each day. I have a cool down option on my incubator that turns the heat off for an hour each day to replicate the hen leaving the nest to eat, drink etc.

hoping.

I did candle Friday. things were looking good for most. marked air cells, when I could see them. I had one or two looked like they may have blood rings, but difficult to tell for sure, because the eggs were the dark brown ones.

In Nov. I had 2 power outages 7/8 hrs each and one 4hr. period, hubby turned off power to fix hot water heater. I still got 16/17.
this was your first hatch?

lol.....that's kid of my concern, first hatch, inexpensive incubator, that obviously doesn't hold temp well with out the heat going.

That is fine... It takes awhile for eggs to cool. Remember hens leave the nest to poop and eat. Don't stress

I also had a power outage my first hatch. Almost 48 hours! But I got a generator hooked up to the incubator after about 18 hours. Was sub-zero outside, temp in the bator got down to 65. Delayed the hatch a day or so, but still had 4 ducks and 1 turkey hatch! I now have a generator that I can drive on to my porch, run an extension cord out, and plug in!

If you do a search, there are some suggestions somewhere about things you can do if your power goes out for extended periods of time.
