It takes all kinds . . .

I just wanted to say I also do not eat meat because of how they treat there animals in factory farms. the thing that got me to not eat the meat was when I seen how they treat there egg laying hens. I dont understand why she does not eat meat to help the animals but would go and eat eggs from the store where they treat them so bad. Does she know how they treat the egg laying hens? I think if she did she would come running back to get your eggs.

My neighbor is soooooooo happy to get my extra fertile free ranged duck eggs. She works at a hospital and tells everyone there how good they are. That makes me very happy, as she's getting the word out on really good food.

Pardon, I have been curious as to that part of their marketing ploys...

I kinda figured it was them getting let out every now and then, or just a ton of them in a pen, not 1 per cage kinda thing.

Very interesting ...the non-fertile eggs from the store vs. the possibly fertile ones from your backyard

I was just having a conversation with someone yesterday, regarding Vegan (not quite the same as Vegetarian) person not drinking milk, but consuming large quantities of honey.

Said Vegan person would not consume the bee, as she would not consume the cow ...and she doesn't consume the milk for the same reason ............so, why is it okay to consume the honey?

Interesting post. here in the UK if you are going to sell your eggs you are not allowed to sell fertile eggs to the public........consequently you cant allow roosters to run with your girls if you are contemplating it, they must be kept seperate. Funny old world.

My husband and i became "nearly" vegetarians couple years back. We don't eat any meat, but do eat fish, eggs, and dairy. Although i try to only eat our own chicken's eggs, we do sometimes stray if out at a restaurant. My decision was based on how horribly animals are treated, in general, in the large stock yards, and the inhumane way they are slaughtered. However, now over time, i have come to simply not crave meat in general. There are so many yummy alternative available. We try to stay low-key about it, because the last thing anyone wants to deal with is someone on a soap box.

But you know, every day is a new day, and i can't say i will never eat meat again. i have no problem with anyone else eating whatever they want, and really applaud the folks who raise their own cattle, pigs, or whatever, give it a good life, then humanely slaughter it. Too few people even know where their food comes from.

Anyhow, didn't mean to do a long post. But i think awareness and education about your food, where it comes from, and how it was treated is a good thing. If your friend doesn't want your eggs, i'm sure there are tons of folks who would greatly appreciate them. i have a constant line of friends and neighbors clammering for my spare eggs.

Well first of all if someone eats honey and claims to be vegan, they aren't vegans can not consume honey and still be vegan, they are just vegetarians.

I am a vegetarian but I do not eat eggs or drink milk (due to allergies) but I can tell you if I did, I would be eating ours (which are fertalized) WAY before grocery store eggs bc I know how those hens are kept. Those eggs aren't going to hatch, they aren't little chicks, they are just eggs. From their vagina to your mouth

Yeah, I was a lacto ovo veg for about 10 years, and I would have eaten fertilized eggs. I mean I guess she can do what she wants, but it's not like they were incubated!

Me too, I'm curious. I'll have to Google that and see what it really is all about.
