My husband and i became "nearly" vegetarians couple years back. We don't eat any meat, but do eat fish, eggs, and dairy. Although i try to only eat our own chicken's eggs, we do sometimes stray if out at a restaurant. My decision was based on how horribly animals are treated, in general, in the large stock yards, and the inhumane way they are slaughtered. However, now over time, i have come to simply not crave meat in general. There are so many yummy alternative available. We try to stay low-key about it, because the last thing anyone wants to deal with is someone on a soap box.
But you know, every day is a new day, and i can't say i will never eat meat again. i have no problem with anyone else eating whatever they want, and really applaud the folks who raise their own cattle, pigs, or whatever, give it a good life, then humanely slaughter it. Too few people even know where their food comes from.
Anyhow, didn't mean to do a long post. But i think awareness and education about your food, where it comes from, and how it was treated is a good thing. If your friend doesn't want your eggs, i'm sure there are tons of folks who would greatly appreciate them. i have a constant line of friends and neighbors clammering for my spare eggs.
