Items stolen/Trespassing - Progress on our fence *pics post 91*

Dave_cash69. It is really sad. I grew up in an area where you could trust everyone, so this is hard to get used to!

Chuck, I haven't spent a lot of time shooting, but I am capable of shooting a shotgun if need be. Mike and I plan on doing a little target shooting in the field on a regular basis (practice for me + kind of making sure the neighbor is aware that we own firearms and know how to use them).

I don't think I could ever shoot to kill someone, but I don't think I'd hesitate to shoot at their feet if necessary!

Thanks for the reminder... I meant to pick up some no trespassing signs the other day and I forgot!

Awww, thanks Redhen! That's a great idea! I might do that eventually... I kind of need to get my sister's wedding quilt done before I can make one for them. Maybe I can make them some hot pads for now.

I know...when I was a kid in the 70's, you could go to bed with your doors unlocked and your windows wide open. Everyone knew each other real well...even went camping as families together...had pig roasts and square dance parties. Those were the days....

Someone I know whose car was recently stolen sent out this link to a listserv: http://www.swiftreport.net/

Crime victims can anonymously post any type of theft (from auto
theft to pet theft), shoplifting, hit-and-run, graffiti, road rage,
property damage, fraud/ID theft and other offenses into a secure
database which gives local citizens, distant law enforcement
and insurance companies the ability to help solve the case and
recover stolen property. Serving and searching all 50 states.

I don't know if you own the land that you think they came in on, but if you do; I'd suggest putting down hidden nail strips when you are gone. If they come on your property again, they won't be getting far.

Sorry this happened to you. Some people just suck!

This will get you sued. You cannot set traps for trespassers. I don't know why the law takes this stand, but it does.

Where I grew up, my parents didnt lock the doors either. Our neighbors were our friends and stuck by us. I sure do wish it was that way now.

It WAS that way 15 minutes from here where I grew up! At our rental house we last lived in (near where we grew up) we accidentally forgot to close the front door before we left for work on more than one occasion and no one ever bothered anything. Our garage didn't lock and our 4 wheeler and lawn mower sat in a 3 sided building. No one ever took anything.

Oh well. I'm just frustrated that we have to spend like $2500 that we don't really have to spend to protect our property and to make me feel a little more safe.

We did get the 4 wheeler back last night. It's ok other than the fact that they put 30 miles on it, it is a muddy mess, and has a few scratches. Still no word on the chainsaw. We have electricity to the shed and a motion light out there now. I like that I can see over there now. It sure makes me feel a little bit better.

The whole Mark thing seems a little wierd.. his kids found the 4-wheeler in the woods, obviously told him about it and he didn't bother doing anything with it? Anyone else would have reported it, taken it, or something. Then he calls and says the guy who owns it will call you soon?? Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions but I can't help but think that maybe he's in on it with Scary Perry.
I'm glad you've got the quad back though, but man, what a way to ruin new home owner's joy.

Oh I totally agree. I think that they were all in on it! They all knew too much. It kind of seemed like both Mark and John Wilkins were trying to help us so that maybe we would overlook their involvement - just my opinion.

I talked to my neighbor across the township road yesterday (Walt, who is like 80 and has lived here forever) and he said he heard that they caught who did it and that he was really disappointed in Perry. I didn't even know that they caught him! So, apparently he's the only one who got in trouble? Maybe they were all in on stealing it, but because he was the one who sold it to someone they only had enough proof to get him. I don't know. The sheriff's office didn't tell us anything about what's going on.

They did tell my hubby when he picked up the 4 wheeler that they have a slim chance of ever finding the chainsaw. So, since we REALLY need to have one, we had to go buy a new one yesterday. Now we can start making room for the fence along the property line. I hope we're done spending money for a little while, though. We've had to dip into our savings way too much as a result of this.

Thanks for the hugs, Harley's Girl! I appreciate them!
