It's pretty disgusting...

We don't give ours meat...I mean, think beef, imagine a live chicken bringing down a cow!...but the few times they got their claws into it, it was twice as good as the normal cheese goodies!

But we do feel bad whenever we're cooking chicken and having one in the house, simultaneously. I'm not quite sure how that works ethically, as I love cooked chicken and the real thing both.

I really take pleasure in telling people the things that chickens eat, thinking that "organic" means vegetarian, or something like that. People think they don't eat meat, insects, poop or small frogs. I would rather call them "free range" which, in my case, in true.

Another pleasure is clarifying that all waste, eggs and fertilization is from the same hole with hens. HEHEHHHEE!!!

This is even more gross........my DH accidentally ran over one of my bantam hens in our driveway as he was leaving for work. I didn't see it for a few hours........................................................................................................................................................until I looked out and the others were eating her

I don't generally give my chickens, chicken, but only because the dogs get all the leftover chicken scraps, on the odd occasion they have had chicken, they just devour it.

Today one of my cats brought a LIVE snake into the house, only about 12 inches long, I brushed it out, hubby chopped it head off and the whole lot went to the chickens, nothing left, no snake, no bones nothing.

I have a lot of gamefowl and I keep them on tie cords next to a hutch. One of their favorite snacks is when I tip their hutch and they find a mouse nest under there, they go crazy.

that's exactly what i was just telling my sister. she couldn't understand why i had my little silkie roo up at the house just cause he was bleeding from a pecked comb. i had to explain that chickens were like sharks- one hint of blood and they will peck a dear friend to death.

i don't give my chickens chicken. the dogs and cats get any chicken leftovers. i think it's probably over cautious, but that's ok with me. they do get pretty much everything else from the kitchen though. today they are getting some corned beef that is just past it's expiration (i'd still eat it... if i liked corned beef). i promise you that if one of the cows dropped dead in the field, my chickens would waste no time cleaning up the evidence. they might not take one down, but they aren't about to miss an opportunity like that!
