I've had it with the plastic feed bags

It's freezing here, so you need gloves on, one minute without them your fingers are completely numb. All winter trying to lift and cut open the new plastic feed bags that ALL the feed companies are using now. You can't get a grip on them without gloves, let alone with gloves. The whole bag slips out of my grip, all over the place. Why did they have to mess with the paper bags??? I miss them so much.
Just needed to vent!

I don't live where it is cold, but even here in sunny so cal, it helps to just start the string on the upper right corner, just pull it out an inch or two BEFORE you lift the bag to where you are going to pour it. When you get there, it is easy to open it, gloves or not, or even if you have it balanced on the edge of a barrel and only have a split second to one hand it and yank that string. Just be sure you don't pull it out two or three inches, or you will be leaving a trail of chicken feed, no telling what would follow you to the feed bin! MMwwaaahahahah

Not sure about the bags there but all the plastic ones here have a strip at the top with a piece of string running through it. Grab it on the right hand side looking at the front of the bag and pull. I've not had any problems with or without gloves. You said "cut" so I wasn't sure if your bags were like this or not.

Well, maybe just me then, but I have a heck of a time getting a grip on them to lift, plus the weight of 50lbs....
I stick with my original statement, I miss the paper. Plus the paper was recyclable.

After I open the bag, I shove one arm inside the bag and grab the bottom with the other. Heave Ho! And I'm ready to pour.

In the interests of reusing, someone here mentioned filling the empties with soil and using them to grow tomatos or potatoes. I use them for trash bags now.

Try buying their feed from a co-op if you have one nearby. My co-op feeds come in the paper yet. The pink Purina bag would look great with red cherry tomatoes growing out of it, don't you think ? Hope spring is on the way.
