My chicks are moving outdoors today. Very bittersweet for a few moments when I wiped the dust off of the washer. No more sweaty nights, sitting in the laundry room, drinking ice water, sweating, and watching chick antics.

I plan to keep them in their brooder in my hoop house 1) for transition 2) I still need roosts 3) brooder had lid in case something finds a weak spot in the new untested hoop house.

Big day!!!! X}~

I know the feeling.....a couple months ago, our last brood of chicks was transitioned to a cage in the coop. It was a sad moment, realizing that the babies had grown up so much in so little time. Actually, that room is still a little lonely with the absence of chirps, cheeps, peeps, and quacks from 32 chicks and 9 ducklings. But you know what? Now the barn is filled with the sounds of laying hens who are happy as well as loved, and this more than makes up for their missing presence in the house.

The emptiness will soon pass, and the yard shall be a place of joy for you whenever you walk out.

Thanks Alex! That's how I felt, just a realization that that time period is over. I don't have children but I got a glimmer of how parents feel when kiddos move to the next stage.

I thought I'd have the coop done enough yesterday to put the brooder in it. Nope! Heh! Then I thought, "oh no! Did I clean the laundry room too soon?" But realized I could put them in my workshop at night. During the day it's too hot but at night it's ok. I have a friend coming over today to help me with the rest of the coop.

They ARE sort of like children, aren't they?

I'm not ashamed to admit that the girls are my babies, who get spoiled and doted on every day. Heck, they even get goodnight kisses!

Chickens are easier lol if the annoy you, you get a break inside. However with a kido they just follow you everywhere lol i could just be suffering from the terrible two stage lol.

You do have a point!

My brother is two years old, so I can completely understand what you're going through. If he's bothering me too much, the coop, where it's MUCH less noisy, becomes a place of refuge.

Peace and quiet is an occasional necessity for me.
