I adopted 6 ex-commercial hens, all debeaked. They are now 3 years old and you have to look close to notice the difference between their beaks and the "normal" ones.

Even before thei rbeaks "grew out", they didn't have problems eating. At the time I fed layer pellets, they did fine with those and any other stuff I fed. They did have a problem pecking small stuff off the ground, but they figured it out and did whatever the other, home bred hens did.
