For this experiment I will need two birds with lice. One will be treated with ivermectin orally, another will get medicated water for two days.

Stay tuned for results!

Disclaimer:
Ivermectin is not labeled for use in poultry, so there is an egg and meat withdrawal. Please consult your veterinarian or FARAD for withdrawal recommendations if you decide to use this or any other medication that is not labeled for use in poultry.

I'd apply it to each bird, either orally or topically, rather than try it in drinking water. It's not a very stable drug, and light degrades it too.
Officially, because it's not approved for chickens, the egg withdrawal length is forever.
I've used it too, although not since finding permethrin spray. I threw the eggs away for a week or so, because it made me feel better...

Normally I do give it orally or maybe topically, but people keep saying that it's effective when use in water, and I want to know if it's true or not.

Regarding egg withdrawal, one of the vets on the Facebook group called Chickens Vet Corner says the withdrawal is four weeks and it thought I read that she got that info from FARAD.

I just looked at FARAD, and currently ivermectin isn't listed for poultry at all. No withdrawal period listed. The research article listed, from Argentina in 2015, didn't check eggs very long (weeks) and found residue in yolks for that time. No numbers given; their project wasn't focused on egg withdrawal times.
On the other hand, it's not on the totally banned list either, like some drugs some people are still using on the forum. It's just not on the radar for poultry at this time.
More money for more research! We won't get small farm friendly products without it!
