ivermectin question

I have wormed with wazine and am ready to do a follow-up worming with ivermectin.... but my small animal vet (not avian) told me that ivermectin does not enter the tissues and will only deal with pests on the skin, not internally. I am hoping it will handle some internal worms as well, am I wrong?

Is my vet mistaken, because I know a lot of the advice here is to use ivermectin as a follow-up to wazine?
