Ivory the Rooster: Day 665 *updates*

I am so glad to see Ivory doing so much better. Keep up the good work 77horses!! She looks very healthy now. She looks like one happy little chick

Hopefully that comb will stay small and you can keep her.

Thanks everyone.

UPDATE: 50 days old
Well, today it seems like Ivory has grown a lot overnight!
ep.gif
Her voice has deepened and she is looking a lot more mature.
smile.png

BUT, I'm really starting to worry that she may not be a "she" after all. Her comb seems to have gotten bigger and she is looking more rooster-ish, unfortunately. I just have a bad feeling that she's a rooster.

Bug I hope I'm wrong!!! I don't think I would be able to give her away even if I knew she was going to a new home. Giving her away would be like giving up my own child, really. It may sound strange but I'm just so attached to her now and I would rather give away one of our roosters so we could keep her.
sad.png
I just really hope she doesn't turn out to be a rooster.

But anyway, today it's above 60ºF and it's really sunny out! A perfect day for Ivory to have some free time outside.
smile.png
I brought her outside and she ate some grass and wandered around. She seemed a little skittish at first for some reason, but obviously she loved going out because when I put her down she flapped her wings and ran around excitedly in circles.

And she even took a dirt bath and laid in the sun! It was soooo cute!

She found a damp spot in the grass and laid down, fluffed up her wings, and was just enjoying it all so much.

I will definitely bring her out again later today!

UPDATE: 51 days old

Ivory is growing some tail feathers!!! Finally!
ya.gif
Some pin feathers are sprouting from her tail and I'm so excited!

She also seems to have grown a little overnight, again.

Pictures:

This one is my favorite because she actually held still for the camera for once.

Here you can kinda see her comb...and why I'm starting to get worried about it!

It's kinda hard to see the tail feathers coming in, but here you can see her stubby little tail:

This one is a much better view of her comb, even if it's farther away. But you can see how big it has grown if you look closely...
14678_photo_152.jpg

Now I need to go fill up her food dish with more chick starter feed.
smile.png
She ate most of it all last night! Then I'm going to bring her outside later today when it warms up some more.

LOL thanks, and I think she looks funny (but just as cute!) with her shoulder feathers.
smile.png
And now her tail feathers are coming in too!!!!

Does anyone have any guesses about her comb? Is it too early to tell and is it me or is her comb starting to look rooster-ish? Or am I just being paranoid and her comb really isn't that big right now?

Thanks!

Thank you! And it's actually thanks to all of you, too, because you've helped me so much! I don't know what I would have done without all your helpful advice.

And the chick starter is doing most of all the improvement on her. I will never ever EVER use ground corn as a substitute again, unless of course the chicks are with a broody hen and if I really need to feed them ground corn, I will add cooked eggs with it and they will be free ranging, so that would work. But as long as I have baby chicks inside a broody box, they will always have chick starter/grower, and NOT ground corn.

I'm just glad we caught it in time and now I know better for raising more chicks in the future!

UPDATE: 52 days old

Ivory is VERY energetic today!
lol.png
I just took her out of her box and she keeps jumping around and trying to get into the laundry to scratch around in it.
roll.png
She's also growing so many feathers overnight, it seems!
ep.gif
Just last night her tail feathers were just coming in, and now they are starting to look like long pin feathers!

Notice the size of her comb (which seems to be getting a little bigger everyday!
hide.gif
) I'm starting to wonder.....but I hope she's not a rooster!

Look how big she got!!!

(she's watching me type this at the moment lol
tongue.png
She likes to sit on my laptop, just as long as she doesn't poop on it!)
