Oh! I ALWAYS do that!!! hahaha I've never found it this hard to switch over....I guess I just can't see him (ugh I actually wrote "her" back there but quickly erased it!

) being a rooster.

Normally if I guess wrong on a gender I am quick to start calling it by the correct gender, but this is pretty hard to get over!

UPDATE: Day 70

Not much going on today...It was sunny and chilly out, so Ivory went out for a little while and ate some of the new green grass on the lawn. I officially switched him to pine shavings in his brooder box, because when he scratches around on the newspaper it tears it up into shreds.

He seems to like the pine shavings, which are more cushioned than the newspaper.

Didn't have a chance to get any pictures of him today, but I did take a picture of his possible future flock: (Marty the RIR and his hens)

But it depends on how well he gets along with the roosters. We have two flocks; one with an adult RIR rooster and Red Star hens and a RIR/Red Star young rooster. They all share one coop. Marty, the RIR, and Juno, the RIR/Red Star, get along pretty well because Juno knows his place in the flock, which is lower than Marty, who is the leader, and Juno is a very friendly rooster. He won't fight with anyone.
The other flock, consisting of our Splash Cochin rooster, Foghorn (Ivory's father) and a variety of hens, would be a second option for him because we don't really want him sharing a coop with 2 other roosters. That would mean 3 roosters sharing 5 hens in one coop.

But if he also doesn't get along with Foghorn and his flock, then Ivory would have to be a house chicken!

I would rather have him be a house chicken than sell him.
Oh and I almost forgot...If none of the above work, then I could take a few hens and put them with him in his own separate coop.

That way he could have his own flock but wouldn't get in trouble with the other roosters.

77 Is Ivory going to stay with you and your mom or with your dads flock?

I'm not sure...I've been convincing my mom and stepfather to get chickens, and they seem to have warmed up to the idea a little more after I wrote a long persuasive letter for them. But it would be great if they decided to get some and got some younger chicks (as hens) and then Ivory could be the rooster of the flock.

So he would just stay here and we wouldn't need to go buy a rooster! But if that doesn't happen, he will just have to go to my dad's house with our other chickens.

Also, I have some pictures from yesterday (day 72) that I forgot to post! Today is day 73 but I will post his pics from yesterday, anyway:

Yesterday it was a bit chilly in my room so I got out my heated blanket so I could do my homework, and Ivory helped, of course! He enjoyed taking a long nap on the warm heated blanket and he took a "dust bath" on it as well.

I think you should keep him at Mom's House, because the ticks are bad here. Also, he shouldn't go to Dad's House because we already have 3 roosters, and they crow all the time!

With another rooster, people who live on our street might get mad.
