Ivory the Rooster: Day 665 *updates*

UPDATE: 325 Days Old! (approx. 46 1/2 weeks old, or 11 months)

Hi everyone!
Tonight is the first official snowfall, where the snow actually reached over an inch on the ground! Ivory and his three pullets are safely inside their coop, where they have a light on to keep their water from freezing. Tomorrow morning they will most likely be surprised to see all the fresh snow on the ground, and so far they are enjoying their first winter (though Ivory was born last January). They, especially Ivory, love to eat the snow, too!

Christmas is fast-approaching, which means I need to buy a present, of course! Every year, I always buy a big tub of plain yogurt for the chickens, and they love it! It's usually gone within a day.

Also, Ivory mounted his first hen today!

LOL he always tends to do his little "rooster dance" around me, and never around his hens, and I was hoping he would someday realize that he has real hens that he should be courting instead!

But I guess he finally realized that today. He's growing up so fast...Haha

Plus, he's been crowing A LOT lately! I love hearing him crow!

Here's the latest picture of Ivory, standing at the entrance of his coop.

In other news, the three pullets (Hope, May, and Jasmine) are also growing up! They all look like adult hens now and are soo adorable with their huge, fluffy beards and earmuffs.

It's only a matter of time before I see that first green egg in the nest boxes!

Thanks for reading and check back later for more updates on Ivory and his flock!

UPDATE: Day 356

Ivory's 1st birthday is next weekend on January 29th!!!

Not much has happened lately with Ivory and his flock of pullets, besides all of this snow, of course. They are rather timid around it and will not come outside the coop. They seem to hate walking in it.
lol.png
So they have been spending most of their time inside the coop with the light on and their new, fluffy pine shavings.
Also, two of the three pullets have started laying! One of them lays an olive green colored egg, while the other lays a green egg with a more blueish tint. I'm not sure which ones are, but I'm guessing it's Hope and May (since Jasmine is the baby of the group). I love finding their eggs in the coop nearly everyday now.

Now I just need to teach them to lay them in their nest boxes, rather than in the middle of the bedding on the coop floor.

Here's the most recent picture of Ivory and his girls, curiously looking out their coop door at all the snow coming down:

Sorry, for some reason I never saw your post until now. But thanks!

Also, does anyone have any ideas for Ivory's birthday present? Yes, I buy my chickens gifts for special occasions like that.

I either make them a tasty treat, or get them something like a tub of plain yogurt. In fact, it's my tradition now to buy all the chickens a couple huge tubs of plain yogurt and then give it to them on Christmas morning.
lol.png
They love it, plus it's hilarious to watch them eat it because they end up making such a mess!

Although that's for Christmas, and I wanted to do something different for Ivory's birthday...

Any ideas???

Mrs. Fluffy Puffy :

Humm..perhaps another 'Gal Friend?

He already has 3, and the maximum number of chickens that should be living in my current coop is 4-5, and I have 4 in there right now. So I don't want to make it too crowded for them. But thanks for the idea!

How about some Black Oil Sunflower seeds. Our girls love them! Or you could put a big piece of protein in there for him (meat).

I just read the story of Ivory and enjoyed seeing him grow up and become such a beautiful rooster!! Hope he has a wonderful birthday and many more to come! You've done a super job of raising him and learning from all the chicken advisors on BYC! Keep posting photos of your gorgeous guy!
