Jack Russell Terrier vs. Coon - Fight Photos & Dead Predator

I went outside earlier and there was another coon on top of my chicken run. Right now it is on my porch eating my catfood. As I said in the first post of this thread, para. 5 "having had this experience, I wouldn't make the same decision if faced again with the same circumstances..." So although Titus is looking anxiously out the window, then coming back to me and whining to be let out, I'm busy trying to figure out how to put this trap together.

Before I posted this thread, I read terrielacey's sticky "Predators and Pests Forum: please read here first." Link: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=5808)

I'm
glad BYC has this Predators and Pests forum that allows me to tell a story about my efforts to protect my livestock and allows you to express your opinions, whatever they may be. I am sorry that some of you are offended, and I am grateful to those of you who, like me, are proud of Titus for doing what he was bred to do.

I personally don't think you need to apologize for offending someone ~ especially since your title thread indicated exactly what was to be seen prior to opening.

And as I said earlier ... opinions from both sides should be welcomed as long as it doesn't violate the UA. Its how we learn.

Best of luck with those coons.

Keystone Paul, I agree with you. I think to many people have "loose lips," on the internet and don't realize it could come back to bite them. I'm one of them, off and on forums.
It's so easy to share too much information in emails, etc. Deleting them doesn't help.

My son works for Microsoft and he has always told me nothing is permanently deleted, it is "out there," and can be retrieved.

When we feel comfortable with an audience we share our thoughts & actions. We may be safe within this circle but, you never know who is out there lurking and taking note of all the confessions.

If the forum isn't an exchange of instructional advice it is probably worthless to us - but, it does have risks. We need to be reminded and think first IF it is worth the risk or maybe sensitive info should only be pm to the seeker.

What do other people think????

I think you and keystonepaul are right.

Having said that, I don't see anything illegal happening in the original post. The original poster provided an appropriate description of the content, and delivered exactly what was described, IMO. Kudo's to CityClucks and Titus.

I participate in several forums. Fishing, hockey, hunting, chickens, electronics and other topics I'm interested in. I've seen lot's of improper and illegal comments, descriptions and potential conspiracies posted on message boards. If I know something is over the line, I report the post to the Admins. Could some of the things on here be used by animal rights groups? Definitely. Could those accusations be rebutted based on the context of the forum's primary content? All. Day. Long. We're much more likely to be looked upon as animal lovers than animal slaughterers. But special interest groups, not unlike our own here, maintain whatever perception works to that groups advantage.
As users of this forum, we have a good idea of what the content is going to be when entering the "Predators and Pests" threads. We also have a pragmatic view of those animals in our care. Threats to our pets safety are dealt with as swiftly and humanely as possible. Using one pet to protect another is quite logical. Just like we are pleased that our domestic fowl eat insects. "Freezer Camp" is another nice way to say that all good things must end, but not without some redeeming virtue to the event.
All in all, on the internet, no matter what your position, someone will oppose it, challenge it, and in some cases try and use it against you or your fellow enthusiasts.

My predator terminator is half German Shepherd and half Bullmastiff. This past week there are two fewer opossums. He earns his keep just like the JR. Good dog!
"Thunder", the wonder dog!

Good Job Titus! I owned a working dog for 16 years they love to work too! Move your cat food. Bring it in at night. I had a run of raccoons too! They were feisty too! A wild animal is wild. It took over a week to catch two. I think there are more at my place. But they are smart and got the bait out without tripping the catch. I used smelly cheap cat food. I think your raccoons already like cat food though. I glad Titus is ok. Tell him good job for me.

Having lost 9 chickens to coons recently, I think Titus is great! Can I borrow him for a little while?

Wow, good dog, and amazing that you caught it on camera. The worst my terriers ever brought down was a cat, and I was terrified the entire time that they'd lose an eye to the nasty thing. My heart would be in my throat if they ever managed to catch a coon that size.

I am definitely showing these pictures to my grandparents. They're the type that owns rottweilers, and they think small dogs are meant for old ladies. They never believe me when I say terriers were born to hunt, but I'm sure these pictures will impress them.

A lot of people keep a camera by the doors when they own chickens/livestock, heck some even have them posted on trees!

we have a wandering bear here, yes my camera is always at the ready, he tears down my coop I want imediate pictures so F&G can take care of and reimburse for doomage.

crimmy having a camera by a door is getting called out? maybe everyone with a camera should keep it in a camera safe with the batteries out and in another safe area.

The Jack Russel did its job, the OP did a great job getting stop action caught on film,
ever try to get decent in motion shots,?
That little dog is worth his keep, he proved it.

Too many people who have dogs think they are stuffed animals to be taken out and played with on a whim.
Not enough people are using their dogs for what they are bred for and should be worked as.
