Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

I tried candling but didn't see anything. Maybe the 16 eggs are duds? Maybe it's too soon? Or maybe I just don't know what I'm doing? Is day four too early to candle?

I candled on day 4 and have seen some veining. Day 5-7 seems to be better because their eyes (I think?!) are visible (dark spot).

Do broodies count? If they all hatch, our countdown ends some time this week. Woohoo, polish mixes and our first time if they hatch. Any tips much appreciated!

You won't have to do much! Just keep a close eye around day 20 & after... You just don't know if they're going to turn on their young or if you may need to help one hatch (I was too late but there was something wrong with it, it had a slight crossbeak - died while zipping... Only one side of the shell was chipped off, it didn't turn like a can opener.) there were a few eggs I had to toss too. If she'll let you take each egg & sniff them, you will smell something fierce if its a bad egg!

I'm on day 11. I candled yesterday & have 20 little chicks moving around. I started these in the bator after my roo was killed by a wild dog so I'm hoping to get a sweetheart like he was.

Pretty early...I know some folks do it a little sooner, but day 11 works for me....................

I am now on day 8. I tried to candle. I can't see any veins, of course I have never done this before though. The air sac rings have gotten bigger on every egg. I did notice that on two of the eggs, when I move them around, the yolk rolls with the egg, and on the other egg, it does not. I wasn't exactly sure if these eggs were fertile. However, I cracked open eggs since the ones I put in the incubator and they have been fertile. I'm so unsure. This is frustrating. I'm holding a smaller L.E.D. flashlight and not letting any light escape. I wonder if it is a strong enough light?

I'm guessing it is the flashlight...............and day 8 is still early.....................

This will be my 2nd coturnix hatch that is over 30 eggs. I would be trying to hatch 120 or so eggs.

Wow, that is a lot of chicks. First try for me, so I'm starting with 24. So, I know exactly what I am getting into before I try a larger hatch. When are you putting yours in?

Day 10 of incubation....Had one quitter, looked great on the 7th day and today its veins had collapsed and looked like just a normal blood ring... Did an eggtopsy and the yolk sack was ruptured...
But 22 are doing the heart beat dance

We should be hatching on the same day (about the 30th?). I have 20 right now that are moving around.

I also have some in the incubator day 7 and out of 47 I ended up with About 20 and half of them I am uneasy of...
Huuuu so disappointed. My last hatch I had 25 moving at lock down and only hatched ten.
Humidity was good, temperature was good. Why would this happens.?

Good luck! With 20 eggs developing, chances are good I would think!
