Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Thank you!! I feel that option 2 would be the smarter move. Do I need to lock it down when I see just one egg pip or wait until I see a few. I'm thinking just one but I just want to confirm.

I would up the humidity as soon as there is 1 internal pip.. if it's on the early side, you could just go to 55% and ramp up to 65% the following day.

opening the incubator at this point causes a sudden humidity drop so anything you do to add more water has to be super quick.
I like using pieces of sponge so I can just slip it in very quickly, I don't see much of a humidity drop doing it that way. it's much better than removing the entire lid and pouring some water in :)

Now I'm debating whether to do this or coturnix quail eggs. I'm leaning towards the quail because I need to get my breeding birds for this year and no one seems to want to buy these chicks I hatched so I don't want to hatch more and find out no one wants them either.

I am looking at hatching coturnix quail after these hatches. First time for me.

hmmmm... of my detached air sac eggs. Two developed blood rings...grrr. Others look good as far as I can tell. Still hands off, candling while in auto turner. I did notice that a couple have a nasty saddle air sac. Any suggestion on them. Normally, I set them at a 45 degree angle. Should I have them more upright or laying down during lockdown. They don't go into lockdown until the 31st, so I have time to come up with something to set them in.

that is most likely were it became detached/separated from the egg wall in shipment.. what I do is place them in the auto turner so that they will turn in the direction of the saddle, and opposite. I found that if you place it so that it turns the other way (90 degrees) of the saddle direction it can cause an even more deformed air cell (like a heart shape), so I just go with the direction it's going.

For hatch, I prefer to keep them upright in cartons/auto-turner with detached air cells.

These are the pics of the wooden cover for the galvanized stock tank brooder. And you see the inside picture where we cut another board (for under the water and food) and cover it with rubber non adhesive shelf liner. It keeps the board clean under the food and water and the shelf liner can be washed over and over.

Luckily, they are already in the auto turner as you stated. But I will try the upright in an egg carton with them. Thanks.

Day 8 and #6 quit on us. :( He had a nice strong heart beat a few days ago but today, I see nothing but a blood ring. So out it goes. I finally convinced the hubby that #5 is not going to up and magically develop, so it got the boot too. All of my other ones are happily moving around and one looks as if it's having a party. :) Oh, and there are a couple of eggs where I can't tell what's going on with them, but they're darker eggs, so I am leaving them in there.

I am now on day 8. I tried to candle. I can't see any veins, of course I have never done this before though. The air sac rings have gotten bigger on every egg. I did notice that on two of the eggs, when I move them around, the yolk rolls with the egg, and on the other egg, it does not. I wasn't exactly sure if these eggs were fertile. However, I cracked open eggs since the ones I put in the incubator and they have been fertile. I'm so unsure. This is frustrating. I'm holding a smaller L.E.D. flashlight and not letting any light escape. I wonder if it is a strong enough light?

I can't see a blasted thing in my marans eggs.
