Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Woke up to a pretty good wind storm and rain outside...Hopefully we don't lose electric

Me, too! Had DH bring in a big extension cord and put the incubator on the big UPS backup that his computer is on. EVERY SINGLE TIME I incubate eggs, this happens. Never fails. And I haven't incubated in probably close to a couple of years. Also haven't had a big thunderstorm in months and months. I guess I brought it on by plugging in the bator, lol.

I just put Black Copper Marans, Cream Legbar, and Rhode Island Reds in the bator last night. On Sunday, in the second bator, I will put in Blue Laced Red Wyandottes, Ameraucanas and lavender orpingtons. First hatch of the year for me. Count down begins, tick tock tick tock.

The RIR's were shipped eggs. They were shipped during the polar vortex weather most of us had. The seller did have a heat pack in the box.. Fingers crossed.

Just joining this thread. I have 17 eggs in my incubator that are a cross between my red star hens:

And my Barred Rock Roo:

I figure if I'm really lucky maybe I'll get some barred chickens with orange undertones. Due date is 1/25. I just candled yesterday and 15 of the 17 showed some signs of development, with the last two being too dark to tell.

Hatch a long thread is a great idea - I'm happy to be joining this one on my first hatch!
Wow, I can't wait to see how these come out. Getting pretty close to how they get the Rhodebar, which I have in. You may be able to sex them. The girls are chipmunk, and the boys are lighter, with a spot on the head. Ooo,.like I said, can't wait to see these. :)

Just found this thread! We are on day 3 of our very first hatch, in our very first incubator. 7 Silkie eggs, and 8 cream legbar crossed with sex link or Cochin eggs. Very excited. We wanted to do a test batch before we start just Cream eggs.

I like to fix things myself. I have such a great assistant. Also, everyone I have hired since moving has done a terrible job (except one) and charged way too much. It feels good to do things myself. If I don't know how, I google and youtube it. Did I mention I'm retired? Limited budget. It cost me $12 to fix it myself. I would have had to pay a plumer $120-150.

GOOD FOR YOU..MY DH IS RETIED ALSO..KNOW WHAT IT'S LIKE GOING FROM A NICE AMOUNT OF MONEY TO LIVE ON TO A RETIREMENT FUND. WE DO WELL THOUGH, WITH HIS KNOW HOW IN FIXING THINGS, AND HE IS A GREAT ONE ON BUDGETING.

My
shipped eggs came in today but I have to wait till the ones in the incubator hatch on Wednesday.

Hope they be ok. Does anyone knows what to do so they have a good chance.

I am way behind on posts..I think I am answering questions that have been answered, and asking questions that have been asked..sorry, I'm just going down the list..overload from Cynthia this morning on catching up!

You don't have another bator dolfi? It really is best to get the shipped eggs in by 24 hrs. later. They've been collected a while before, then the shipping time. That's quite a wait for shipped eggs..Wed. :/

Hay, is it true that when you receive shipped eggs you have to let them sit for a day to settle?

Often, I only wait for 12 hrs. Especially if they were out a while! It I know the area that they came from and how the air sacs looked the last time I bought from there, and they were what I call..wonky..lol..then I rest them for the 24 hrs.
