Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

When I first started reading this forum as we started incubation I told myself that I wasn't going to be "one of those people" who candled during lockdown. Blaaahhh, see how well that worked? I am "one of those people" who just can't stand it! Oh what I would give to have a little poof ball flopping around the incubator, not to mention how sentimental these eggs are to begin with... I'm hoping the dark is good, but I'm still worried about the small air cell. My inexperienced guess is that we kept humidity too high through out incubation. Our conditions were FAR from perfect. Little egg will get a few mode days. C'mon baby....

Seriously, this is the only thread without super arrogant jerks. I am sooooo tierd of people being rude, acting like they are the all knowing chicken farmer, shooting down what others say without anything to back it up. People have been raising chickens for a very long time. That does not mean it has always been done in the best way. People are learning new things all of the time. If you do have a different opinion, you don't have to say it LIKE THIS!?! That means you are calling me stupid. I have proof to back me up and you have cause an old person said so. ARRRGHHHH!

Sorry had to vent. Back to hatching....

You are fine to vent. I get that way sometimes too.

It is nice that we all have our own way of doing things, different humidity levels, different candling, different incubators - and no one is acting all know-it-all telling people they're doing it wrong.

Thanks for pointing out how great we've got it here. I hope it stays that way!

I agree. I've had to leave a lot of threads, too many rude people who get very pushy when different opinions come up.
I like this thread, very upbeat and encouraging.
My eggs are on day 11. Ten days. We're going to candle on day 14, to check that clear Silkie egg, hopefully all the other are doing well. I can't wait to have little babies hopping around the incubator. I love this big window in the top, my girls get up every morning and check on the eggs. Super fun for the whole family.

Hi Viola, yes I remember you. As I recall you had a great hatch too. I appreciate the pics of them you shared with me. Did your BCMs turn out 2 roos 2 hens like you were thinking?

So far, only one is a very obvious roo! They are 9 weeks now

He has the comb and wattles to prove it, and the other 3 are looking more like pullets every day. They are getting in some copper on their necks, but none on the chest, and so I'm hoping I have 3 pullets here...

3 FBCM pullets & bonus welsummer pullet

Mr FBCM Roo

I am so daft - posted on last years January hatch thread! Darn

Actually it was BYCs fault as I searched in the tool bar and last years came up not this years!
Ohhh well - here now. I set eggs this morning they are PRs nothing fancy. My SIL has a roo in with hers and so I got 5 eggs to try hatching. This could be fun as last year I got two batches of eggs posted and none hatched live viables. Got one live chick but it died at a week old and had to be helped hatch. Not good. I am hoping because these didn;t go through the post I might have a better chance than scrambled! Anyhow the little ones are all tucked up and were already at the end of day 1 - Ohhhhhh I just love it when you mark the days and it seems ages until Lockdown and then - well you all know it comes round sooooooooooo darn fast.!

Hope they hatch and are HENS!
