That's the one I got. Don't use it to make notes. I turn off all of the lights and make notes as I candle. I kept blinding myself when I would shine the light on the paper. It is really really bright.

that is so funny....when my granddaughter was here for christmas we would go out to put everyone to bed...if the ducks gave me grief about going to bed when I said I'd say okay anyone that doesn't mind me gets a kiss....so my granddaughter would always tell me they were naughty so we would could catch them a snuggle them a while lol
my older bigger chickens and guinea free range...we fenced off about half an acre just for them....I clip the guineas wings...remember my lavender rooster flew into the dogs yard and

I remember about your rooster. Very sad. I don't have to worry about the guineas flying away. I have begged them to. They think it's more fun to stay and torture everyone than to leave. Idon't have to worry about them getting into the dog pen because they are in the dog's yard already. This whole area was my dogs but as she got older she stopped playing outside. Now that I have chickens she goes out there again. But as you can see nothing to worry about with my dog. That's Cinnamon next to her. She is one of my favorites. Sometimes she scratches Daisy tummy and Daisy shakes her leg.

Day 23 update: out 16 I had one hatch on day 20 (cute little ameraucana), one on day 22, one on day 23 and one current external pip. Don't think any others are coming after this last one. Had two other ameraucanas alive at lockdown, but looks like they died before internal pip. I really wanted those to make it.

She was scratching her for while but by the time I ran in the house to get my phone she was almost done.

baby faverolle getting some snuggles with her 'blanket' aka hand towel (there is a heating pad underneath the towel, she loves it)





she is a faverolle, so she has 2 extra toes similar to a silkie. those toes look good. but her outside toe on each foot is folded under. she is just less than 1 day old.
I hope it corrects itself, otherwise she will be getting some chick sandals!

Whats up with MAX today?

He is outside with the chickens. He followed me everywhere while I was out there. Pulling on my clothes for attention and then pretending to be embarassed when I hugged him. Teenagers.

I went out and took a picture. This is what he was doing. Taking a nap in front of the door waiting for me to let him in. Now he is sleeping next to me with his dog and blankie on the bed.

Im so sorry for what happened to your rooster. Quik question. Why cant you breed showgirl to showgirl?

You CAN breed showgirl to showgirl. The naked neck gene is dominant so it will show even with only 1 gene for it, but will have a bowtie. Here is an explanation of how the genetics work (this is for any naked neck, not just showgirl):

Completely naked neck (no bowtie) has 2 genes for naked neck.

Bowtie has a single naked neck gene.

Feathered neck does not carry a naked neck gene.

The following combinations resullt in different outcomes in the babies:

Breed 2 completely naked neck parents-get all completely naked neck babies.

Breed completely naked neck to bowtie-get completely naked neck & bowtie babies.

Breed completely naked neck to feathered neck-get all bowtie babies.

Breed 2 bowties-get completely naked neck, bowties & feathered neck babies.

Breed bowtie to feathered neck-get bowtie & feather neck babies.

Had to edit..read into that site I posted..wow, don't agree with putting a plug back into the incubator during lock down!! They need oxygen during lock down. I never, ever even use the plugs, not even during incubation. I just get the humidity and temps where I want them, and keep it there, without the plugs. Oxygen is sooo very important! Mama hen is up and down during incubation. She will lift her body to turn the eggs with her feet or bill, they are getting oxygen. Mama hens will still be turning eggs while she ... should be...in lock down. A hen doesn't know about lock down. I would imagine she stays more still when she starts to hear peeping. Her instinct to stay on her babies and keep them safe. Some will still get up and turn the other eggs. If you ever watched the on air live cam of the Eagles hatching, they are up and moving around after each baby has hatched. In cold windy weather! Why then, can those other eggs that are pipped...hatch? Why don't they shrink wrap? I've watched those Eagles for three years now. I've seen it every year. Pipped egg exposed to the cold air. They hatch. ??
