Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Day 7 and I just candled all the eggs, out of the 42 there were 9 duds and two possible duds, will check again on day 10, but I pulled the 9 that were showing nothing... I purchased eggs from a guy who only charged 5 bucks a dozen, bought 36 eggs from him, didn't set the pullet eggs so that left me with 34 from him.. with the duds and possible duds I have 23 from him, I set 8 of my own... He was complaining that he is going to up his price to 10 bucks a dozen from now on, I will let him know that until he can be positive all his hens are covered and the eggs are fertile I wont pay more than the 5 dollars a dozen
Temp is holding steady at 100.9-102.1 and I am trying the dry hatch method, I just added a couple TBSP of water but have been steady at 42-43 degrees...Dropped to 39 last night and was 38 this morning.. Its stable now at 44.. This is the first day I have added water since I added the eggs and a bit of water.

But I have for sure 29 viable eggs!!!!

I had 2 eggs I was watching as duds, one had clear tip and one didn't have veins near top of egg- day 19 so eventhough they didn't smell pulled them so they would not discourage the other eggs (if you are and egg and you start to peep, but the egg next to you does not

) so I popped them did my egg topsy- they stopped day 16 or so and the yolk was green not yellow

I'm no good at waiting lol I have to wait til Sunday to candle my eggs for day 7. I did candle two yesterday w/ my homemade candler to see how well it worked. Quail eggs are so dark but I could make out air sack and yoke....now I understand why most quail hatchers don't even bother candling until lockdown. Anyways here are my ittle ones.

only day 2

I just put my quail eggs in lockdown last night. I had the same issue with them being too dark and small when candling. I gave up trying to see anything. Although, I did candle at lockdown and took out all the ones that were clear.
