Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Have you considered that it is your heating pad? I have a very limited knowledge of such things, but my understanding is that in significant temperature drops, heating elements can over heat themselves just trying to maintain their original function.

This one has a thermostat control and I don't know if it can exceed that control on its own...but I don't know about such things either. I know when it was the same ambient temps in the room in the day as it was at night that the nest still fluctuated in this manner...long about evening when the room starts to cool and long about morning when it starts to warm, both times it's near 50* in the room, the nest will warm up in the night but will cool down in the daylight and the ambient temps in the room are the same.

It's a puzzlement.

My chirping eggs have become chirping eggs and one pipped egg! I got to watch the Pip happen right in front of me... and right before bed of course. 9_9 Just my luck I will wake up tommorow and they will have finished hatching already right before I have to run to the feed store...

Congrats!!! Show us pics!

Run of the mill! 15 breeds of hens, only 6 roosters. My 4th hatch of the year is due next week. A lot of EE and red leghorn. And a little bit of everything else.

Some of my best layers have been cross breeds...................

Up to 7 hatched now. 1 more has pipped but is the wrong end. The egg is kind of round so my worry level is a moderate right now. It is rocking around right now to. What do you all think. Here is a pic.

I think that if it's rocking around right now, that it's working to try to hatch. I will

that it is able to do it on it's own. I'm not sure when you would intervene. When did it pip?

never had to tweak it just for night but around day 10/11 I have to tweak it seems like the eggs start producing a small amount of their own heat

I find this idea intriguing because I just did a "final" candling on the three eggs that hadn't hatched from this last batch and the six that were put in a week later. The three eggs that hadn't hatched were dead and one of the other six looks like a quitter too. I noticed last night as I handed them that the "duds" seemed just slightly cooler than the eggs I definitely saw movement in. Oh, if I only had the equipment to do a scientific experiment!

I had one pip in almost the same location this week and I had the same worry but I didn't touch it and it hatched out just fine. Happy hatching!

good morning,

Our weather has cleared up........

Ameracaunas due tomorrow...Really hope these hatch. Have been wanting some for quite awhile.............
Down to one incubator......the one I used as a hatcher had a burned out element.............
Planned to replace the element.
Then my DH said something unkind about it being on the kitchen counter.......
I moved it into another room and set it on the floor thinking I would clean it and put it away later.
My DH's great Dane got excited hearing raccoons outside, went bonkers and stepped on the incubator..........
Several times from the look of it.............

I am more than a little upset and it really is my fault
for losing my temper and not putting it away properly. grrrrrrrrr
Seems I should be able to put a hatcher together??????????? until I can get another
incubator but I am not good at building things...............we'll see.
Thanks for listening..............
