Jan./Feb. 2014 hatch a long

Hope your weather wasn't too bad there. Now I'm about 45min or so from PS.

So. Here is where I am now. I want to set my eggs like, now. If I have my thermometer at THIS height, what should my temp be? Or can I just (pleeeeease) leave it on the screen and shoot for 99.5 like always??

That looks good. It should be 99.5 at the top of the eggs (on the egg carton as it is now).

When it is 99.5 at the top of the eggs, it will be cooler than that (97F?) on the floor of the incubator on the metal grate. So if you take the temperature from the floor of the incubator, it will not be accurate and the top of the eggs will get too hot.

Thanks! Hmmm.. I've always heard in a still air your temp will actually be 101/102 at top of the eggs. And where that thermometer is, would actually be halfway up the egg as it is a lid cut in half..

Sorry, just wanted to be sure you remembered the still air part.

Jeez maybe I should stick with ducks lol! I'm far more confident there and not near as finicky (believe it or not). ;)

Oh, I did not see that you wrote you will be using a still air. You are right, 101F is best for a still air incubator :)
it is best to take the temperature at the top of the eggs. You could even place fake ceramic eggs in the incubator, with the thermometer on top, to get the right reading :)

I know that she has 5. maybe this evening I will have time to post what pictures I have. They are black with some yellow on them.

Oh, hey! I just read back and realized.. Are you the one who uses a book under the bator instead of hand turning? And tips as far as how big a book? Thanks. :)
