Janoel Digital Automatic Turner - 48 egg - New Version ?

I heard the manual was tough to read. This is a newer version (notice the face slants back now) that I purchased and the directions don't look bad.
I'm not sure if this is new or not but I have attached the first few pages.

Ok I have officially decided that the egg turner made for the Janoel 48 is a piece of junk. I purchased my complete unit last spring. I only hatched once with it and then packed it away until Decembers-hatch-along. My first hatch the turner moved from side to opposite sides with each 2 hour intervals. It started out ok on my December hatch but then it started to make noises when it turned. I was on day 16 and I had it pretty full of eggs so I thought that was probably causing the noise. I did not realize until day 14 of my third hatch that the turner was not working. When I placed it in the incubator at the start of my 3rd hatch it was tilted to the right. By day 14 I realized each time I checked on it, it was always leaning to the right. So I checked this site and someone suggested I hit the reset button to see if it would start up again. Well I did that and each time I did it traveled from the right side to the left side in seconds and then it always returned tilted to the right. After removing it for good I got to thinking about the 2nd hatch I did. I had had 41 out of 48 egg holders filled and I remembered that I had grouped the eggs by the source for which I had gotten them. On the left side of the incubator closest to the back I had 9 very large Golden Comet eggs sitting together. I think that their weight messed up the turner or turner motor. So this past week I ordered a replacement motor for the turner. I received it this week and installed it day before yesterday. Upon installing it the first time it wouldn't turn the trays at all. Watched it for 24 hrs then took it back apart and re-installed it. There is a very fine adjustment of the screws that might cause it to not work. After running it yesterday and today it will at least cycle every two hours, but it still always tilts back to the same side, this time it's to the left Grrrr... I have given up hope that it will ever cycle correctly. My advice for anyone else that has this unit & turner that is still working, make sure you space out large eggs evenly throughout the entire turner. I will not waste my money to purchase a new turner, they are built too cheaply. I purchased a different model of incubator(new) with a turner for only $20 more than what a new turner would cost. At the very least I can purchase a different brand of turner & have hubby cut a small notch from the edge of the bottom half for the turner power cord to fit in. Otherwise the cord would be pinched between the bottom half & the heavy top.

BEWARE Maestro! This one with the tilted front panel is a VERY POOR rip off and not a 'real' Janoel. I should know, I've got one.

Believe it or not even the cheapie Janoel brand is being ripped off via ebay. This is the first incubator I bought, the one with the tilted back face. It has lasted 2 incubations and the motor/heater is gone. I dropped it to just a hatcher, handy as the bottom is clear so we can all watch clearly. But after 1 hatching now I can't get it up to temperature, I think I lost 33 out of 36 eggs last hatch to its low temp (the screen indicated 38C, it was more like 33C).

As Chicken lady said above, the tilting trays are very weak in this model and easily flex, bend out of shape, and stop turning properly. We found ours actually fell apart, thank goodness my OH is handy and was able to rebuild it mid-incubation.

Note on the panel it says "Egg incubator" but with no model number under it. A 'real' Janoel will say Egg incubator, and underneath will be the model number, ie Janoel 8-48. Also this tilt top only has an 80W motor - believe me it burns out in no time. Much better the 160W motor (despite them telling you it will use twice as much power, in fact it uses less as it doesn't work half as often.)

The latest 2015 models have just listed on ebay in Australia. They are square with a clear bottom box. The plastic these square ones are made from is much tougher and less flexible than the tilt top ones.

Finally, do not believe the readout on the front of any of them, make sure you purchase an extra thermometer (or two!) and hydrometer to keep an eye on temp & humidity.

I'm not sure how good the Janoel brand really is, but these rip off ones are seriously not worth your money. I have been using 2 other real Janoel 8-48 models continuously for over a month and had really good hatches out of them. I have just bought 2 more of the new ones with the clear sides so we can keep a good eye on hatching.

I purchased a real Janoel model JN8-48 two years ago on Ebay from *Orchid (they were a U.S. vendor for Janoel at that time and had a office in CA and shipped to U.S. from there). I have mainly used my Janoel as a hatcher and Love it!!! Takes 10 minutes to get up to proper temp., easy to clean and sanitize and I have found it to be very accurate. I always calibrate a couple extra hygrometers and thermometers for each hatch. I place them where I can see them in the incubator and the digital readings on my Janoel are spot on. I have made a few improvements to the unit. lol I put a plastic tube through one of the vents and cut the plastic grid so, I can add water if, needed without opening the unit. I added small vent holes on the high edge of the bottom and I used styrafoam to insulation all the way around the sides of the unit. I always put a jar with water in the unit as a heat-sink.

This is great to know... Any idea why almost all my water leaks out when I fill the resivores? Hard for lockdown. I've added a few cups of water to get it up but this is crazy.

I'm not sure? Check to make sure it doesn't have a hairline crack in the plastic bottom. The last couple hatches I did in late Spring this year, required me to add more water besides the bottom trays to keep humidity up high enough for hatching. The added container I used was 6"x6" and tall enough, I didn't have to refill or have to worry about chicks falling in it. The extra container kept my humidity at 65%. Every time a chick would start to hatch the humidity would go up by a bit then, would go back to 65% until the next hatched. Mine has a drain hole in a tiny compartment of the bottom tray so, getting it to the utility sink after to clean it is tricky without leaking water while carrying it. I have learned to towel dry the reservoirs before moving it. lol

Thanks so much. I set 18 of my eggs and only 6 hatched but 2 were sticky chicks... I saved both with a little TLC, warm water, q-tips and a medican dropper. These that are hatching later (had staggered because hen left a friends nest of 10 and a cridder killed another hen on eggs equaling 19) seem to be progressing sense I added the water cups and mist lightly with warm water from a bottle today. 8 hatched right now.

I saved a plastic lolly tin the kids once had that is just the right height to sit in on the tray with the eggs, I fill it with water to help 'up' the humidity at lockdown. Works a treat. I was using coffee cups but had a chick fall in and go for a swim right after hatch! (That was one time I opened the hatcher early!!!)

Hey, can you please send me a photo of the differences between a real one and a fake one? I’m wanting to the 24 egg one. This is the one I’m wanting to buy. I live in Australia if that helps??
