Janoel Incubation Experience

Actually I'm counting YOUR brilliance to carry me to better hatches.  I copied you all the way!:D

Oh no! I would hate to be responsible if anything goes bad! Ugh!
But I'll share the credit if it goes good! Haha

I got 18 pretty little pinkish eggies. (so small compared to my duck eggs lol) Debating now whether to set them tonight or wait till tomorrow morning..... Took a vacation day tomorrow so I'll be home, but I think I'm gonna go ahead and start them here shortly....

Hi,

does anyone use this new Janoel incubator that has the flat trays? I'm trying to hatch goose eggs and I'm not sure if they fit on those trays. It's really difficult to find an incubator that has proper trays for goose eggs. I appreciate any idea on the problem.

Haven't tried it but it looks like a great solution!

So... I was setting up my incubator for a new batch of lavender orpingtons. I noticed that the turner would swing go past 45*, then come back and almost settle flat. I hit the reset, which makes it cycle again, and it did the same thing in the opposite direction. WTH? I watched the little arm sticking into the turner arm, and it was ending up either at the top or bottom of its circle. Needs to end up on each side! Had me stumped for a bit.
Then I realized that I must have turned it off in the middle of a cycle. So I shut it off in the middle of a cycle again and voila! Fixed! Whew! Lol

Okay, here's one pic. Eleven went to lock down. There was 1 that I was pretty positive would not hatch but I left it till it quit moving. The other 10 are now under my broody.

So sweet. I just love watching the mamma hens with their babies!
Today I am moving my chicks under my broody mamma. This is my first time doing this. It appears she is done hatching although I cannot SEE. I hear lots of peeping. Any advice for introducing new chicks? Should I wait for night? She is pretty friendly for being broody. I could probably stick my hand under her with a gentle peck. Should I just slip them in throughout the day?

I can't wait to see your lavender babies. We will be hatching just a day or so apart! How many did you set? Are you planning on breeding them next year?

I had eggs that were supposed to arrive 2 days ago! Now I HAVE to buy another bator for hatching as I will have a 3 day split on these eggs!!! Oh no....

Oh boy, we get to go through this together again! Yeah!
I set 18, the eggs are sooo pretty. I tried to mark the initial air cell and can't see some of them. These shells are really porous, or something? Or just so fresh it wasn't evident. They look really speckled inside, but not from the outside. If ya know what I mean. I've never had these little babies before, and I'm not sure how many I will keep/sell/give to my sister in law if they all hatch. They are just so beautiful, I had to have some! I also weighed them, so if the air cells remain hard to see, I'll at least know weights.

And oh darn! Another bator! Lol what are you setting and how many?

I have no advice on giving the babies to the broody. I've never been that far before. I'm just getting started with babies lol. But if she's a good girl, I bet she can handle it. If not, I guess you could always bring them back in?

Once I found that she was okay with babies I just started adding them one at a time. The last two hatched about the same time and they weren't even good and dry yet and I just stck them under her butt, between her legs. I kept a glove on hand I was using to lift her to avoid being pecked.

Here are those chick pictures I promised:

4 Silver Spangled Hamburgs

3 SS Hamburg x Dark Brahma

2 SS Hamburg x Blue Andalusian and 1 SL Polish x Blue Andalusian

1 SL Polish x Welsummer and the SL Polish x Blue Andalusian from above

5 Black Langshan X (aka Penguins)

I guess I had 16 hatch rather than 15... I swear I can count.

I saw some Silver Spangled Hamburgs at TSC. I didn't know what they were till now . They are all so sweet, especially the Hamburgs.
