That little wheaten one is a bit of a ring in isn't he?! Very cute regardless, congratulations Marie on 3 happy fuzzies!

Awww super cute! Don't want to sound stupid but why is one of the chicks a different colour? I finally manage to get my self to let go and get rid of the eggs that weren't up to much when i open egg no.1 (I labeled all the eggs 1 to 12) it was just a yolk, and no.10 was a chick that had just stopped trying a tiny little blob with some veins and an eye! so out of the 9 eggs that went in 7 are still in there and flying around the inside of the shell when i candle how amazing :) YAY

That's not a stupid question, I was wondering the same thing! Ironically, that little guy hatched out of the darkest Black Copper Marans egg that I had... it was quite a surprise. Apparently, it has something to do with a random wheaten gene that shows up every now and then. Out pops a yellow chick! You're having better luck than I am with your eggs! I candled my Ameraucana eggs and it looks like three of them never started, they were just full of yolk. The other five are developing nicely so... keep my fingers crossed for the rest.

Candling is fun and addictive. I'm trying to candle less and open the incubator less. I have three Cream Legbar eggs left out of 12 that just went into lockdown today... so I am also making it a point to NOT open the incubator for ANYTHING until Day 23.

So i jumped in tothe deep end and thought as i'm probably going to be addicted to hatching just as you all are i would by a quality heat lamp :yiipchick  what do you all think http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121292994210_trksid=p2060778.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I would definitely recommend buying a nice metal/ceramic heat lamp. Especially if your going to be using a 250 watt bulb. Lots of fires are started by heat lamps, so be as safe as you can possibly be. Also make sure that your heat lamp is attatched securely in your brooder. Best of luck with your hatch.

Three little chickie-babies are here! I opened the rest of the eggs. Three were just full of yolk and lacked any sign of development. Two were early deaths that I had left in the incubator, because the Marans eggs were too dark for me to be sure. That leaves my hatch rate on these shipped eggs 3/8 OR 3/5 if you don't count the eggs that never started. They are super cute! The little wheaten-looking one tends to walk all over the other chicks, though!
Aww so cute, congrats.

The chicks have been SOLD! =) The person I sold them to will also be paying me to hatch some Bielefelder eggs for them! I was able to spend a few days with those adorable, fuzz-butts though! That little light-colored one was developing a strong personality! How are your eggs doing??? Are you getting excited??

I'm soo excited! My eggs are doing great I think I've got 7 that are still going strong whoop whoop! So if all goes well I will end up with at least half that so 3 or 4 chicks eggciting stuff yay

Okay Nana went and done it. I'm on day 6 on bator #1, was planning on not touching the eggs until day 10. Just couldn't stand it any longer so I got 3 eggs out to candle. Each egg came from a different source. When I candled 1 from my eggs I couldn't see anything yet (egg is a darker color). Egg 2 is from a shipped source (dark color as well), couldn't see anything yet. The 3rd egg is also a shipped egg (light color), YAY I have a embryo started.
