JANUARY 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Hi everyone! I'd like to join! I am in the NYD HAL, but had some eggs arrive late, and then was like, well, if I already have late eggs, then why not get some more? lol! I set 8 Silkie/X eggs on the 18th and I just got 7 Pencil Rock, and 4 Surprise Mix eggs in the mail today, and will be setting those tomorrow.

Welcome to the January HAL, i have 11 polish mix/surprise eggs in my bator too for the NYD hatch a couple are clear already

Oh well though it looks like i should have a good hatch though.

i told OH i was in the January HAL and the Vday HAL too and very likely doing the Easter HAL he gave me the "are you insane" look but then smiled. i told him he needs to hurry up and finish his fridge-a-bator because i need a place to put the chicken eggs for hatch/lockdown away from my muscovy who wont hatch until like 2 weeks later. Poor planning on my part but im sure it will be fine.

I'm going to participate in the Easter HAL, too. Not sure about Vday, though. I hope I can get my eggs all at the same time, for once! lol!

I added 4 frizzle eggs into the bator last nigt so i will have a hatch on the 10th-11th too lol.

We will be setting 12 mixed silkie eggs(shipped from TN) and 6 eggs from our blue egg layer (we've had 100% hatch rate even when shipped as far as A

Z)
Set Date Dec 27 so we are looking at a Jan 17 hatch date.
We may add a few more if we collect any eggs still warm before set date

I put in my Pencil Rock and Goth Chicken* eggs today. I candled the Silkie/X that I put in on the 18th, and there weren't any veins that I could see. There was shadowing, though, so I'm hoping that, because the incubator was accidentally unplugged overnight, they are just a day behind.

*I call them Goth Chickens because they are supposed to be all black.

I put them in with my NYD eggs, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do on Lockdown. I was going to use my dome incubator for a hatcher, but it can't hold humidity for even one day. Maybe I'll rig some kind of drip system.

I am really hoping the Silkies start showing signs of development. If they hatch it will be on my birthday.!

Edited: I don't want to start, or continue, any arguments, lol! So, Goth Chickens is what they are!

Almost every egg i can see into has veins and i am on day 8/9 there are i believe 3 clears in the polish mix eggs and 2 clears in the muscovy eggs and 2 maybes in the muscovy eggs.

The part that has me puzzled is if i do by weight they have lost about 3% less then they should...if i go by aircells they appear on track. i am going to weight them again tonight and see how far they are weight wise.

Hey lady, great minds think alike, apparently! I thought I'd join a hatch-a-long too, and here I find you

Now I can see how those eggies do!

Hope y'all don't mind if I join too. I'm setting a dozen shipped EE eggs (which I got from HerbGirl1972

) and a few of my Silkie/Sizzle eggs (or Japanese or Phoenix mixed eggs, depending on who left them when I was collecting). I've never done shipped eggs before, so this will be a new experience for me!
