January 2016 Hatch-Come Join Me

Was going to set the 21 eggs tonight, but am going to wait until tuesday, after this foot of snow rolls in and out.

I fill the 'bator, I guarantee the power will go out. Waiting won't hurt. Eggs will only be 2-4 days old.

Probably a wise decision.

I am super excited i have done some research on candling. the yolks are darker than the ones i got out of my coop today i cant wait till i can for sure tell what we have :)

Hello everyone. I am in. I just set 3 dozen eggs. (I set 3 dozen every time). I ordered only full size. I got to the farm and something happened to the leghorns I ordered, dumped over or something and they were dirty and cracked. The guy gave me 5 that were really dirty but that was it. He had the barred rock for me so I got 16 of those. But unfortunately I had to take Bantams and barnyard mix to complete my order. I have 2 standard RIRs that were almost as small as the Bantams because they just started laying. So I've never hatched Bantams and I don't really want them but I didn't want a half full incubator. We'll see. Happy hatching

I told myself I wasn't going to become a candling addict when I put my first eggs in... But after seeing the little heart beats yesterday I think I became addicted!

I'm wandering if we know the same guy. The one I got 2 dozen eggs from knows good and well I don't do bantams but at least 11 if not a total dozen were bantam eggs. I just picked thru them and set all the large girl and one that looked bigger bantam egg but not large fowl either. I did that so I'd come out with an even number eggs.

I wasn't even picky about the breeds either. I did have a total of 46 eggs set though.

Set 22 this morning. The storm track shifted NE over night, so Iowa will take the brunt of it.

Fingers crossed for 22 more chickens in the world.

That us what the works needs to fix all the problems, more chickens.
