I'm on day 4. I am holding strong on not candling. Here's my eggs.

Eggs look like nice sized. I'm trying to improve size in my flock.

Thanks. Most of them are some nice sized barred rocks. There's only a few bantam RIR eggs. Today my friend said Bantams are more heat tolerant which is good for AZ because everyone I know loses birds on the hottest days even with coolers, fans, etc

Have 18 icelandic eggs in the bator today is day 5 they are shipped eggs as my last hatch from mine didnt go well one chic was my last try with mine till spring as letting all my chickens free range some this winter and will seperate again in the spring so ordered eggs from reputable breeder to get more diversity to build good flock hoping will have broody this spring

I've heard those Icelandics are pretty hardy chickens. I'm a cheepo I don't like so ending that much money on shipped eggs.

I'm the type to wait it out and find some when they get cheaper. But then that's just the way I am.

OK I set 22 eggs from my goofballs. I have 14 layers, but only 8 are laying at the moment, because- you know, the end of December is a totally awesome time to MOLT!

I set them Monday morning. Because I cannot count, I candled tonight. (Tomorrow morning will be 48 hours after set.)


5 are obviously veining! WHOOT!

The rest are ether too hard too see due to being early, or that in combination with seriously dark Maran shells.

I'll candle again the REAL day 10,next Thursday.

Woohoo! Super jealous of your Marans issues... I'd love to have a couple dozen of those chocolate eggs in my incubator right now.

Added 9 blue slate turkeys and 12 pekin duck eggs last night.

I lost power to mine yesterday not sure how long I know it was cold. We candled today the first couple we put in and they have a black dot and are moving we didn't want to.mess around so.we candled a couple and closed it up.
