January 2016 Hatch-Come Join Me

Soylent, where did your mystery eggs come from? Mine are light to medium brown too, but they're my own cross. I think its a really cool idea to use a PID. I never even considered using the PID I use to run my smoker, but its perfect for the job. BTW, congrats on getting so many to lock down.

Thanks! These eggs and the hens from last year's hatch came from the same place. As far as I understand, it's a place that supplies eggs to a hatchery and they have extra eggs since the hatchery isn't ready to deal with the spring volume yet. It's all a bit fuzzy to me since the eggs are from someone who knows someone who knows someone who works at the actual place. The first few days of incubation make me nervous since I have no idea what temps, humidity, and jostles the eggs went through before they end up here.

Yay everyone heading into lockdown this week. Me too! Lockdown is Thursday. I have 29 eggs that look good. I am curious about these Bantams. I wonder if they will come earlier. They are so tiny. Especially next to Barred Rock and Leghorns. This hatch flew by thankfully.

I've got my incubator set at 104.5 to get the thermometers close to 100. I took the thermometer out that was reading much higher and put it over my digital house thermostat to check it compared to it. It was 4 degrees higher than the house. I pulled the thermometer do inside the cardboard which the markings are on to match it and put it back in the incubator. I'm having a hard time believing I should have the inubator set so hot and also that 3 out of 4 thermomters were together and the one that wasn't was not matching the house thermostat I adjusted and now all 4 show the same. Anyone have a Farm Innovators 4250 that is that far out of calibration. The digital display is now showing 46% after opening it to put the thermometer back in.

Sorry no experience with that one. The temp seems high to me.

Locking down tonight... ITS THE FINAL COUNTDOOOWN!

- I love this song... It's so stupid, but I love it.

Well, I just candled the eggs under my broody and none of them are developing. :( I might get her 1 or 2 chicks and put them under her at night, so she doesn't feel bad or anything. :p
