The chicken eggs my family’s set are 5 days from hatch so will get upped humidity and go on lockdown tomorrow. Today, I candled them and surprisingly ALL of the maybe.. 20+? eggs looked good. Some were a little veiny, but were actively moving so I counted them as “good”.

What i’m curious about is the bantams.. I’ve got “dibs” on them because my stepfather set them for no reason and doesn’t want to give his friend bantams.
Ideally, they should be red Bantam cochins, but they may be mixed with porcelain d’uccle(rooster), partridge BC(hen), or if i’m very unlucky, a LF rooster fertilized the eggs.

I haven’t candled the turkey/duck incubator in a bit, nor tossed the many bad duck eggs, but I’ll get around to that tomorrow… I may also be setting more chicken eggs this month, but i’ve yet to fully decide on whether I really want to. There will obviously be more turkey/duck eggs on the incubator though.

New to the scene, and hatching our first birds ever with 13 Black Australorp eggs coming in either tomorrow or Friday- hope I’m not too late to join in the hatchalong fun.

Incubator is temp and humidity calibrated and ready to go. Our only issue is the egg turner doesn’t work (it’s a loaner incubator), so we’re planning to turn the eggs by hand, until replacement parts arrive for the turner.

Not too many January hatchers, I see. I’m collecting some BC eggs now and I’ll set them on 1/4 or 1/5 most likely. That would be a hatch date of 1/25 or 1/26. Maybe someone else will join in and give the folks a little more January hatch action!

I’m going to set on the 6th after adding a hygrometer to my incubator. A majority of the eggs will be coming from a pullet who has been laying for about a month. Is that a good idea? I had a bad time last month with my hatch and I won’t even attempt it with those eggs if they are too “young”. Look forward to seeing the results of everyone’s hatch!

I’ve heard not to use eggs from a young pullet. She’s been laying a month though. I’ve used young pullet eggs and had very successful hatches.
