January 2023 Hatch-a-long

So I have various Silkie eggs (five or six) due to hatch at various moments in the next two weeks or so thanks to an inconsistent broody. I'm also going to start setting eggs next weekend, which may be a mistake as my lavender Orpington roo and his harem lived with my silkies for the deep freeze, so it's entirely possible I'll end up with Silkie/Orp crosses....

I am on day 19 with 7 of my eggs and day 16 with 5 of them. Waiting for my first pip

Not too many January hatchers, I see. I’m collecting some BC eggs now and I’ll set them on 1/4 or 1/5 most likely. That would be a hatch date of 1/25 or 1/26. Maybe someone else will join in and give the folks a little more January hatch action!

I have to wait until I get some shipped eggs coming soon, but will hatch in Feb.

I candled my eggs again a few days back, all chicken + turkey eggs were looking nice still. Again, about half the duck eggs had no signs of growth though. I suppose i’ll toss them the next time I candle, idk when i’ll do that though.

It’s quite alright. I already have 14 or so ducklings are the moment who are struggling to be sold. A poor hatch rate on this hatch of ducks(which I didn’t even want to hatch) is kind of appreciated. I am excited for thé turkeys though!

I have shipped eggs coming, but I am going to get an EE rooster, so I can also add a few of my hen's eggs in the incubator.

One chick hatched around 330am and I missed it! I even woke up and checked around 215 and saw a bigger pip, then around 3 with no change so went back to bed.

3 more pips now. Hoping they hatch before 1030 or wait till after 4 since I have to leave and don't want to miss them all. Lol. I do have a camera on them though.
