January Hatch-a-long 2018

I got some amazing eggs in today! I'm super eggcited about my next incubation! Can't wait until all of these eggs finish! I've got some 8 cochins, 5 ameraucanas, 2 bantam cochins, one cream legbar, 12 salmon faverolles, one superblue (not quite sure what that is just yet!), 1 cornish, 1 swedish flower hen, 1 maran, and 4 lemon cuckoo niederrheiner! I'm too eggcited! And my silkies are still in the incubator baking! Hoping that the pop out like some popcorn soon. :D They should be "ready" in 6 days, hopefully.

Somebody buy this for me: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/162832343015

Thank ya! Message me for the address! ;)

Also, on the lockdown.. I looked at my cheatsheet from other stuff and it says 55-65%. . The higher you can get it to soften up the shell, the better it is. My incubator only goes up to 70%, but it's a digitally controlled one. I'm sure I could make it higher by putting in a sponge but no reason to do that - I'm sure there is a reason that the maker of the incubator made the hardstop there.

Hatch complete! I hatched 19 out of 22 eggs for an 86% hatch rate! I performed an assisted hatch for my last egg and I think he's going to be fine. Drying off in the incubator now. I performed eggtopsies on the other eggs, two had external pips. The we're malpositioned and piped at the wrong end and in those cases piped into a blood vessel causing them to die. The third did not pip but was also malpositioned and dead upon opening. After looking at egg shells I realized that two other chicks were malpositioned but hatched successfully. So 26% we're malpositioned! I wonder why that is? Some of these eggs were probably at least 10 days old since this was an emergency hatching situation. Maybe that's why? I'll post pics once everyone is fluffy and dry! Thanks for staying tuned!

Stopped getting notifications for this thread for some reason...
Anyways, happy to report that day 5 candling revealed 1 blood ring, 1 clear, and 10 healthy embryos! I took the two out, and let the rest continue. This weekend 10/10 hatched! One had some toe issues, but I used some foot splints and his toes have straightened out perfectly!

incubator got brought down stairs by fire. The nail polish egg doesn't look very good, but my other eggs will be fine they are only 7 days in. I used it as an excuse to candle. 3 eggs got pulled. 2 of mine and one shipped. The eggs ready to hatch are not going to take this well!
