I am so mad! So before I candled the eggs on day 7 and threw about 30 of them away I let most of them sit for a few minuets while I candled the first ten also keep in mind I haven't incubated or candled ever! So what looked like bloodrings to me was actually healthy development I could about cry! Most of the eggs that I threw out were actually clear but I think I killed about 7 or 8 viable eggs by cracking them and because they had cooled off I didn't see movement! Well I did a very very quick candle and I had 1 real bloodring and there is a big diffrence

I do still have 11 eggs in there all moving but I feel so stupid and just horrible I am so dum about this incubation thing! So I am going to get a brinsea and I will keep the Hovabotor and sell the LG so I will still have room for lots of eggies. BUT I could about die I just feel so stupid this is all a learning process but watching those 11 little embryo's dancing around broke my heart. We will see if my baby hatches out he will be a singlet and I will have to find him a buddy I feel so bad! At least I am 100% sure that neither of the eggs in his batch were viable when I cracked them. BUT OH I JUST FEEL TERRIBLE!!!! Well better luck to me next time now I will be able to do 2 hatches every 3 weeks instead of just 1. I will do a big one in the hova and a smaller one in the brinsea.

Just remember, you saved them ALL from being breakfast, even if they didn't make it all the way to hatch, for whatever reason. It will keep getting better.

I actually just feel really inexperianced and dumb and I wish I hadn't done it I really need pullet for my flock so hopfully all of these hatch out girls. Then when I get my Brinsea I am going to fill it up with eggs from my birds and then I will move them to the hova after this batch is done hatching on the 25th and Rose Isgrigs eggs will go in the brinsea.

That is one GOOD reason to delay candleing ... until day 10. It just makes it easier.

I am sooo sorry for your experience. BUT, you have now learned something new ... consider it a learning experience!

Good luck!

Sorry to hear. Don't beat yourself up. We live we learn. I think a good rule of thumb is to leave them in the bator unless you smell something obviously going bad or have one weeping. Good luck with the remaining eggs!

I've got 20 more in my bator now from a different cross of my LS due on Feb 2 I think. I really like to candle so I candle quite often cuz I figure the eggs didn't cost me anything and to me its fascinating to watch the development! I've got 18 for sure showing growth and 1 maybe. I finally invested in a good flashlight. One of those eagle tacs and it made all the difference in the world! I would highly recommend it! Think I'll go candle my eggs now!

I got the P20A2. More than adequate. Can't remember the lumens I think its like 230 lumens. I needed one that ran on regular batteries. Those new fangled batteries always confuse me. There's like a million different kinds and if you don't have the battery with you you don't know which kind to get. So this works for me.
