petriline, pbjmaker & Cornychick: Great! You've got chickies! That's wonderful! We want to see more pictures! Also, I've never seen quail chicks before (besides Button Quail), so looking forward to that; I imagine they have a sort of camouflage coloring.
Madcap621: Their out of the shells, good! On the "chick-chair" thing, I was so surprised to see that thread showing that homemade support device. Do you have the thread handy to show others here what it is, I'm at work & don't have that great idea saved on this computer. It looks like it would help a chick that is especially not active & help from them just lying on one side all day going numb on that side. Also, not good for their lungs, need to be upright or at least roll them to other side a few times a day. I am really looking forward to seeing you post pictures of them as them mature, I hear good things about the "shoes" to straighten the toes. I know you've worked hard at this; it gets easier with practice. Best wishes!
As for me, I thought that I heard chirps from the one incubator last night, but just shook my head & said to myself "don't fall for it again." We have a Blue Front
Amazon & a parakeet that amuses themselves with suspicious sounds & dog barks to get me up & down to look out the window. Then just before leaving for work this morning & after turning eggs on the second bator, I heard it again; but just shook my head & said to myself "don't even, it's probably those Chickadees outside in the garden again." I went to the window & there they were, cute Chickadees everywhere. So went back near the bator & turned off the light nearby to leave; & again a chirp, but louder.
Well, I have my first pip for my Jan. 27th hatch. Can't wait to go home from work, to see if there is any more progress on those two eggs. I'm happy for at least the two, as the rest of the eggs had many loose air cells upon arrival. Will post pics when a chick or two are out of the shells, then they will spend at least a day in the incubator at 95 degrees F getting strong & ready for the brooder.
