They're gone. When I got home from 'Nana duty' Turvy had passed. I could tell Topsy was very weak. I made her shoes and put her in a donut, but she went to sleep and stopped breathing. I will post the 'shoe pictures and the 'donut' picture when I can, but they're a sweet memory. 108*+ is just too much! I did learn something, tho'. In my desperation to rescue Topsy from the hot bator, I shoved the egg carton over against the sponge. I soaked up the water and where I had been struggling to keep the RH aup but could barely maintain 50, the RH shot to 80 and 90% Before I turn the bator off, I think I will experiment on how big a piece of saturated cardboard egg carton it takes to get RH to 65%.

Wishing everyone good hatching vibes

My faverolles chick passed the other day I think its never really got off to a good start and being alone took its toll. I have rocking and hear peeping and have 10 eggs due Friday.

Oh no!! Madcap I am so sorry.

That is such a bummer. It is pretty cool how you figured the humidity out though, so they left you with a nice way to remember them!

Here is my 1st little "goofball" who is the only one of 2 eggs hatched so far. Hope to see another "goofball" tomorrow. This is from an xtra egg thrown into the batch shipped. It's a Bantam Dominique/Faverolles cross. It's very mad about being by itself, but won't open the bator til I'm sure about the other egg. This one will do just fine in the bator for a day +. A loud one! Best wishes to everyone!

save the favs - I'd watch out for that one - it's already plotting...

We ended up doing a rescue on my 4 eggs from my BCM X cuckoo pullet. The humidity in the incubator just couldn't stay up with the dry winter air here. They were all shrink wrapped in the inner membrane and couldn't move.
Two of them are out and fine, now in the brooder with the other 10 chicks, the other two are still partially encased in their membranes and wrapped in damp paper towels. They couldn't move enough to even absorb their yolks.

I had one on a towel on the counter removing part of the outer membrane and shell, when my cat jumped up to check out what I was doing. When I shooed her away she caught her claw on the towel and pulled it to the ground with the chick. I had a heart attack, but the chick was fine. What a way to take your first flight.

pbjmaker: More chickies for you! Happy to hear a good ending to the cat getting involved, as I thought it was going to be way worse. It's always something!

thechickenonthehill & pbjmaker: Yes, that little single chick is really mad at me. It got revenge by knocking the thermometer off of the other eggs & stomping over it since hatch. Then, this morning it knocked the other good egg out of the egg carton; that'll fix me! Will have to secure the single row egg carton better next time; there's not much room in my round bator, so I had to cut the carton to a thin strip of cells to make room for chicks to run around. It usually works out fine, but this time the carton split into 2 seperate cells, after I got too sizzor happy with it.

Oh yeah, the other good egg has piped this morning. So, "little grumpy" won't be alone. Happy hatching everyone!
