I see no reason why just putting the heating pad flat on the ground covered with a few layers of paper towels wouldn't work for you. It works for me. I don't cover but about two inches of the floor... Drape the heating pad over the side.

That is my setup....heating pad draped over with paper towel cover, grip liner over to food and water on paper towels. not sure why little guy decided to bury under it! of course it’s filthy again!!

I checked the egg that I'm sure has bubbles down the side. I can't get a picture of it, but I've marked it to check again at day 10 or so. I only have my cellphone to light them up tonight. It's hard to get a good look inside some.

I have two that I'm nearly positive are alive, though! The only thing is both of them are forming at the top of the fat end of the egg. Is that normal? I've had them the right way up, except for a few I found that are *very* hard to tell. I'm pretty sure they're all right now, though.

Were these eggs shipped to you?
I suspect if it was shaken enough to separate the air cell, it won’t likely develop, but stranger things have happened! Lol

If you have them upright, then yes you will see the development start at the top. It actually rises. Ones laying on their side develop along the upper half of the egg, but if you candle as you roll the egg, you can see it, and actually watch it float back to the top. The pic below is mid-roll.
They look this way until the CAM fully develops all over the egg.
Edit to add - this is why turning is soooo important!

We have 2 pips! Is it normal for them to start on day 19 I figured they’d at least wait until day 20.

Temp might be a little on the high side, but not totally unusual. More common in bantam breeds.

Oh okay it must be the temp because they are far from bantams they’re barred rock x Easter Egger. It’s stayed between 100.5-101.8 nearly the whole time with a few drops (darn power outages) and now they are at 98.2 which I’m pretty sure is right or close to what a still air should be at. I’m excited none the less :D

They were. I bought 13, and she sent me 17. They were SUPPOSED to be less than a state away (We both live near the Four Corners). But they took a lovely trip CLEAR ACROSS THE US THANKS USPS. Their overnight trip took over a week. She had a very high success rate with shipped eggs, so after talking to several people who ordered from her I went ahead.

Out of the 17 eggs, two I know are duds. The kids want 'just a few more days' to be sure. I figure whatever, the worst that can happen is they explode. After dealing with my cat's abscess (it smelllllllssss) I figure it'll be a dream.

That means out of 17 I know two are bad, bringing it down to 15 total. Out of those I only have five that I'm pretty sure are growing. Out of those I'm only really comfortable about one. It has a black spot with veins, but the black sot kind of moves if the egg gets even a slight bump. You can tell it's stuck to the wall, though.

I'm REALLY struggling with the humidity. I'm sure that's not helping. I can either have the humidity too high and the heat right, or the heat too low and the humidity right. Even with half a teaspoon the humidity goes too far up. I have three humidity checkers in there just to be sure. This late in the game it should be settled!!

I'm feeling a bit depressed about it all. I wanted a Phoenix and Silkie, which she said she sent. And Polish! Funky chickens. I'll be lucky if I get one to live at all. I'll just keep watching and see what they do. Worst case, I only get one fuzzy thing. One is better than non!

I believe still air should be at 102.
