january hatch-a-long

Pics
Yes! I see all the cute baby pictures and I want one of my own. I admit, part of it is greed... There's supposed to be a Silkie and Phoenix as well as Polish. I want them to survive and hatch. I've no idea what I actually have alive. (Mostly the brown eggs)

My day is now wake up, flip eggs. locate Cat 1. Haul her over to the table and check the fang wound in her armpit. Wash up, locate Cat 2. Clean very deep and infected fang wound in his head. Clean up again, realize two hours have passed. Locate Cat 3, take him out to pee/poo (kidneys are shot), feed him. Time to flip the eggs. Two hours have passed since I woke up. Have to check the cats again.

I've now taken up hiding with the eggs so I can sit. As a result I talk to them a lot. I think I'm going loony. My cat also sits with them and purrs. The babies are going to come out of their shells thinking that their mama is a human that purrs!
Haha we must both be loony then because I hide in with the incubators away from the cats and dogs :th

I'll try that, thanks! I have to go to Walmart today for something so it would be easy. Non of my local feed type stores carry lights.

Hopefully I can find the source of the smell. It stinks.

Usually the stinker is pretty easy to find. Sniff each egg if you have to, but GET IT OUT OF THERE! :D
If you can’t smell which one, a stinker will usually be basically solid black when candling.

I do have the same one. I missed your comment about that, sorry! I found that the heat will jump a bit depending on the humidity. I don't think it should go THAT high, though. For water I found three aspirin caps I've never used. I filled them up with water and put those in. You can keep them very full, so the water lasts ages. And it seems to keep the humidity at about what I want. I think it's also helping the heat stay the same as well. Without water mine seems to weirdly go lower. If you figure it out, let me know. I always like learning.
Mine went totally mad and the temperature just keeps rising, luckily I moved the eggs to the other incubator with the staggered hatches but I think the damage was done, then to top it off we had an 18 hour blackout which the temperature in the big bator held well wrapped in blankets but I fell asleep and it was down to 29° so may have lost 4 batches of eggs now :he should have just put the generator on but we are in heatwave conditions here so thought it would be ok

Day 15 and I'm so hesitant to candle. Been slacking on turning, nothing awful but bare minimum 2-3 times a day. The longer I don't candle the longer they still have a chance to be alive :(

That's exactly how I feel. I keep hoping out hope that the one will be okay, you know?

Oh no! I haven't had a blackout here in years, except for one that the power company caused. I'm pretty sure my eggs are immortal with how we'll I've done. Humidity too high (AGAIN!!!) then too low, then too high. The temp is ALWAYS four degrees cooler than 99.5 no matter what I do. Being roughly shipped, surviving eight days in shipping in December. I swear, if anyone has been horrible it's me. :p And yet I know for a fact five are alive somehow!

-----------

So good news on the stinker! It wasn't the eggs. It was the trash can. *Sigh*. I need to get my sniffer looked at, I think.

Going to borrow a lamp from someone and see if I can look into the dark eggs. Fingers crossed they're alive.

So I candled them. I CANNOT see in several still, but I got more than I did. I've got several that look like this. Is that the shell that's thick in different places, or something weird? It dips down in different places, and is NOT the lighting.

Oops, pasted one picture twice. There's two eggs, they're on day 12. About half of mine look like that.
You can see the swoop in this one.

This does not look good.
Are you able to see veins that are not showing up in this photo?
