JANUARY ...OUR FIRST HATCHING OF 2013 ANYONE? come join!!

i decided to open them today. I carefully made a hole in the air sac so if they were alive i wouldn't hurt them. NO movement. No breathing. They were fully formed, yoke almost completely absorbed. Looks like they died just maybe 2 days before hatch. It makes me so mad. I know in my heart that the construction outside shaking my house caused trama to them and killed them. I did the egg topsy today after I caught the incubator just before it fell off the table from the construction causing the house to shake. I don't keep it near the edge.

I had 3 other eggs in an incubator that were doing great but got blood rings caused by the vibration. :( They were only 2 weeks into the incubation. this all makes me so upset. They only gave 2 days warning that they were going to start construction. If i had a good 2 or 3 weeks I could have held off on starting any other eggs. I had planned to set more eggs a week from today but am not sure now. I have to wait until they are done with construction or set my incubator at someone elses house away from this construction. :(

I currently have a 10 day old chick that is alone. I wish I could get one the same age to put with it. The poor thing is alone.
My chick is almost a month old now, and she has been alone all this time. I guess if you don't know what company is, you can't miss it. I feel so sorry for her and have been trying to get some eggs to hatch again, but still haven't been able to. It's prolly too late now, but I will get her a buddy one way or another. For now she will be my snuggle- bum. :3

She was the only one of 17 of my eggs to live.

It was a pretty bad incubator, plus I didn't have the brooder ready when she hatched and I had to keep putting my hand in the bator to feed her and such, thus cooling the other eggs and causing them to become "sticky chicks." The two that were alive both died. :(

You sound like me Rox! I am already wanting to order more silkie eggs from the same lady as the ones I have now because the 1 I had to toss was the only splash she had sent- I want that splash!
And ty for advice on the older eggs hatching, gives me some hope

I did check and she shipped out last Mon. Lordy I hope somewhere along the way USPS didn't loose them!!! I can't blame the seller as she did what she was suppose to do...
Did she give you a tracking number in her email to say they are on the way?
Copy it and If you just go to the USPS tracking paste it in ...it will show each office it was in and where its at. now.
STILL there is hope.dont give up!!! Yes myfingers are SOOO itching

How, you know with a flashlight, candle them.
I don't because I feel like the less you handle them the better the hatch rate. I do remove offensive eggs should there be one.
Some ppl do say dont touch them for the first 7 days But some do anyway.Dont know if it hurts or not.I dont in case..

My 2 little sticky chicks are now in the brooder.Hope they willbe ok
And i have anoher pip ...but its not all the way thru and its at the total WRONG end!!
Dont think there is much hope for the little guy dnt know h0ow long that chip of shellhs been off.the membrane isnt broken but i kept the bator on anyway in case.Thought i had 2 pips but had my eagle eye son look at them and he says its just a hair with some gook on it not a crack..(.boo

yeah after 2 weeks old you need to find chicks the same age. My chick is 2 weeks but looks to be bigger then any local 2 week old chicks. so it will be alone til big enough to go with the big chickens. I can't tell yet if it's a girl or a boy but hoping for a girl.

Well the bator I have these in keeps them upright and just slowly rocks back & forth- it must have worked out because of those 3, last night 2 had reattached & still doing good- only 1 was bad, the air cell was in bubbles kind of all over. Went ahead & tossed that 1. I'll do a 1st time candle on the 6 lav orps tomorrow night.

I am worried about some other lav orp eggs I ordered that have not come in yet! The lady shipped them on Mon, it's now Sat. If they come in on Mon they will be 8 days old!!! Is there even a point in putting them in the bator by then? I normally let them sit over night b4 putting them in, if I did that they'd be 9 days old. Anyone ever had luck with eggs that old? I'd love some insight as to what I should do. I'm gonna be so ticked if they're just wasted.....

I don't toss anything until day 10 when I candle. When I get shipped eggs in I let them sit and get to room temp for 12 hours and then place them in the incubator and they are not turned until Day 7. This gives the aircells a better chance to settle back to the top/reattach. By Day 7 all the major organs have formed in the embryo and by letting them sit for that long it gives them a better chance at developing.

The tracking says it's 1 state over..........OMG I'll have a fit if nothing hatches! I'm going to call my post office in the morning to see if they can found out anything else for me, this is crazy never had it take so long!

This morning I finally got an answer from guy shipping my SFH chicks. Due to weather he didn't want to ship until this Wed. Which is fine, atleast I know they were not sitting somewhere lost

with the chick at the wrong end, would it help to lay the egg on it's side or maybe turn it upside down?
