Thank you for posting this bnjrob.i agree with you 100% .I was going to stop going to this post because all opinions and very few facts.I don't argue with people on there opinions on the internet. What's the point, and no one wins.I love my javas and have had them for many years. The man i got them from has had them for 40 years.I have some real good javas and some sorry ones too. That's why we cull and improve. I have all colors of them and they are some of my best sellers. It's great to see other people happy to get them and help keep the breed alive.Lets all keep going and try to help each other.

So last night I just couldn't wait any longer to candle my eggs I got from Chickielady & Soaring Chicks, I made a promise to myself when I put the eggs in the bator to leave it alone. Just walk away until day 14 no looking, no touching. Well, I sure wish I wouldn't have listened to myself now. I started candling the eggs and they all looked very odd. First off none of them were moving, and the embryo's were sorta pressed up against the shell. For those of you who have years of experience I'm sure you know exactly what happened. My egg turner stopped working! I was sick and what made it even worse out of 33 eggs only 5 weren't at some point of development. AWFUL

I know things happen to people all the time while hatching but this was my first truly bad experience. I am done with hatching for the year, perhaps forever. This was heartbreaking for me. I know there has been some controversy about the auburn javas but the 7 babies I have from my first hatch are absolutely priceless to me. Now to get my courage up enough to call my neighbor and tell her the eggs I had in bator of hers are dead. Sad sad day at my house. Hope you all have a Blessed Day.
Oh No !!!!!!!!!!!! I will ship you more eggs on Saturday !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

NO CHARGE !!!!!!!!!!!! I am so sorry !!!

Well, my plans of keeping a bunch a young chickens and culling most and them selling them this fall sort of fell through,I have been sick for a week with some bug, so much so my kids had to take care of the animals for me.So i posted on some facebook chicken groups that i was have a big sale off.In 2 days i sold 68 2 mo olds chickens at a lower price .I'm selling all of my show New Hampshires ,but of course i'm keeping the javas.I do this every year ,i start out with a bunch and along the way i get way to many. The way i look at it if it gets to be not much fun it's time to cut back.I have about 300 chickens and 16 breeds i'm cutting that down to 4 or 5 large fowl and keeping my bantams. Bantams don't count in chicken math anyway, right?

Anyone else coming to the Rare Breed Show at Garfield next Sunday?
I'm looking forward to purchasing new chicks, as my hens haven't yet gone broody and I'll need new pullets to provide eggs for our family next winter! Can't wait for new fluffy Java's!

Garfield Farm Rare Breed Show was so much fun! New exhibitors, old favorites - 3 different folks showing Java's (plus Garfield's make 4 folks). Lyle was there with a gorgeous Auburn roo and a nearly pencilled mottled hen and some whites. He had his Icelandics too - boy that was tempting! No babydoll sheep this year though or Chinchilla rabbits either. That was sad, but I understand it's a haul for some folks to get there.

But, I managed to walk off property with exactly what I came for: 6 black Java chicks as young as I could find. Tim C. thought they were about 5days old. And they look about that age. Met up with old friends and new faces too...a good time!

Now, to find the camera cord to show you all pictures! Took the images - can't find the bloomin' cord! Grr.....

Here are some recent pics of the chicks we hatched out in early may. I am happy to report that their pinkish feet are yellowish in color now. Boy, they are hard to get a pic as they are so active and foraging all the time. They are about 3 wks old now. I love their faces and their white eyelids/lashes. I have never seen anything like that before, but then again, I have never had mottled chicks before. Here are several shots showing the different coloring amongst the chicks (mottled).

Out foraging and looking for cool bugs amongst the garden and hostas:

Hello all! I wanted to introduce myself as I am new to BYC and chickens in general. I have some local farm chickens but in researching breeds I find myself very interested in Java's. I am going to follow along and learn from you all because if my initial chicks work out I may be interested in getting involved in this heritage breed and a self sustaining flock. So after reading through all this please keep posting everyone! It is interesting to see all the different viewpoints and information. Thanks! Amy
