I did it! I went and got the 5 mottled girls to round out my flock. They are 7 months old and have just begun laying. They are beautiful and so sweet and gentle! I'll figure out adding photos later on so I can show everyone my set up. I am still leaning to CL (Chicken Little because it is my youngest and smallest black java) being a cockerel. If so, I will have one to rehome...

LOL - we have a Chicken Little too. He was a small mottled cockerel that we got as a freebie from the breeder. He isn't so little anymore though. And he LOVES to announce to the world that he is the farm boss - at least for now since none of the other boys are old enough or big enough to challenge him yet since he is several months older then the next oldest group that we have. We did not plan on naming any of the chickens, but somehow he ended up with a name...as did a couple of others.....

My 9 year old granddaughter just didn't get why her mama and I both stated NO very emphatically when she wanted to name our biggest cockerel "Big Cock"

She grudgingly decided Johnny would work instead. Johnny is only 14 weeks old, but looking really nice already. I have one other cockerel that for some reason is lacking in tail feathers and seems a bit scrawny in comparison to the others out of that hatch. I'm just going to give them some time to develop and mature before I decide which one has to go elsewhere.

Life is good,
That is so awesome! What a sweet little chick peeking out of that nest. Can't wait to get to that point here.
