Eleven little Java eggs went to lock down. One wasn't developing properly. Ten little Javas now under my broody. Originally 15 eggs with 4 clear. Pretty good for shipped eggs I would say. Thanks @haTHOR

I love that! What breed is your broody? I have 9 out of 10 alive. 6 in the brooder, 3 still in the hatcher resting. These chicks seem more quiet than any others.

My broody is a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. I haven't done much hatching so it is hard to compare quietness. And these are the first with a broody. Everything was great till I moved them to the big coop and didn't realize there was a small place where the chickens had dug out under the fence that babies could fit through. I lost 5 of the 9 to the dogs. I have another broody and I have ordered another dozen eggs. She is a crested cream legbar, which I don't think are supposed to be a really broody breed. Hope she'll keep sitting till these hatch. I'm going to give her a few and put the rest in the incubator. I moved the other mom and babies to a different coop. No escape from it. I love watch mom and babies together.

3 Mottled Hens, 1 Mottled Rooster , one of my hens just hatched her first 2 java chicks they are so cute. I have a question, I have got some black Java eggs and wonder if I let my Mottled Roo cover the Pullets that hatch out what colors will I get?

I've got black javas, not mottled so I have never tried crossing the varieties. My first reaction to your question was "a backyard mess." Then I started thinking about it. Most of the Mottled Javas I've seen have way too much white in the pattern. So if you are attempting to keep the Mottled birds going and if your Mottled birds have too much white, the cross with the Black birds might not be a bad thing - assuming the black would help correct an over-abundance of white, which I really don't know.
Curious to hear what experienced Mottled Java breeders have to say.

I have my first mottled javas this spring. They came out of New Mexico, through Strombergs. Not sure exactly who/where. They are great, three weeks old and doing well, but I wanted to know if being really vocal is common to the breed? They chirp and warble pretty much all the time. Only other chicks I have had are barred Plymouth rocks and they were super quiet. It is not a question of hot/cold, I think, because both breeds had the same Brinsea ecoglow heaters.
