View attachment 1947183 7 chickens is a good sized flock!

When will you get more?
What makes you think I want more, lol?? When I convince my husband to expand my coop, he had a fit about the size of this one, only 8x8 inside. But he's got a long MN winter in the people coop to listen to me!

Jenn, hi and welcome home to BYC. How does one mushroom hunt. I know in France they use a trained pig to find that one kind. Enjoy your flock...:frow[/Q These are Morrel mushrooms. You get a stick/staff/cane whatever & wander wooded areas moving underbrush. Hot spots are a heavily guarded secret. They are so delicious I've dug under pallets holding boxes of active honey bee hives to get them. I'm the local 2017 winner, lol.

IMHO, 8x8 is a good size coop for 12 chickens, and 12 is a perfect size flock for me. Then you have enough for one of then one to be a rooster! :yaThat is if you are talking coop size and not combined coop and run. The run would require a lot more space for 12 chickens, min 10 sf per bird, but that's not quite enough, really, they need to to run and flap and get away from each other when they need to.:wee

8x8 inside with 10+ ft of roosting bars AND a 100sq ft run (chain link +
1 inch hardware cloth, top, all sides, 1ft hardware cloth underground). Then weather/predator permitting they always free range. No roosters...but there is that annoying neighbor....

Hello, Jenn, and welcome to BYC. You will discover that broody hens are frequently bullied by the flock because their change in demeanor makes them seem like stranger. The pecking order is sort of like 'mean girls in high school'. It's normal behavior.

Thank God the mean girls don't have FB! They're gonna be sorry when Q-bert the Dominique is full grown, she's already 2x bigger than the bossy Commets.

:gigSounds like you need to add some bossy geese to your yard!! Welcome to BYC! Hope you're enjoying our flock! Happy to have you!!

:jumpy:welcome:jumpy
I can see geese terrorizing small humans that visit, hissing & flapping!! Be good lesson in not chasing/annoying fowl, tee-hee! Hubby rolled eyes at coop expansion, miniature donkeys, & absolutely no goats because they are naughty, lol. Hayfield is farmable wetland, didn't drain this year (trumpeter swans stop in spring b4 it dries up). I think he called a divorce attorney when I suggested a pond.
