Hey everyone,

I have a 7 week old Jersey Giant that has a swollen crop, it seems to be empty in the morning and then swells for most of the day after she eats. Not sure if this is something I should concern myself with. She doesn't seem to be acting weird or sickly. Her growth also seems fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The crop is where food is accumulated. Overnight it gets emptied as chicken eats/digests feed. In the morning, its back to empty stomach/crop.
Are your other chickens different???

The major difference is that I have not seen this type of swelling with the other birds. I do understand how the crop works, hers just gets do big I can see skin through her feathers. I will just keep an eye on her.

If you post a photo of her, a full shot of a frontal view and a full shot of a side view, perhaps we could judge if the crop is simply a chick that has stuffed itself, which many chicks do, or if it's something beyond the realm of normal gluttony.
