Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I like them!

I wasn't able to get a pic of my Hall boy next to my Porto boy this past weekend, but I'll keep trying. I take my camera out to the pens each day...this past weekend was nothing but rain. And, I had a bunch of leftover grapes that were getting wrinkly, so I fed them...and...well.....suffice to say, I need to clean the splash boy's bum.

Bum cleaning duty calls!

Ya know, when I serve feed with animal protein I notice an occassional dirty bum. Not with the vegetarian feeds though, just the other. Isn't that just weird????

Now that is a very good question. We all have to learn. Those with the red wattles and combs are roosters. They develop before the girls do. The girls will grow theirs later, close to when they begin to lay eggs, and theirs will be smaller than the roosters'.

My Blue developed his comb and wattles at probably 8 or 9 weeks. Now, @ 13 weeks, I have a Splash that is starting to develop them. I was hoping for 1 roo, 2 pullets. I think it is not gonna happen. HE also has some big thick legs and is gonna be huge I think.

Kathy, you Blue boy is really dark, mine ( R.I.P. Big Boy Blue JG Roo ) was very light blue in color. Your is a beauty!
I was really looking forward to getting some full JG chicks next spring, but then something has to come along and kill my JG roo!

Maybe I'll get another one ... some day

Hey y'all I just posted my Jersey Giant chicks on Craigslist from my Bobbi Porto hatch. I have 3 blue and 4 black-- one of the black females is looking quite scraggly and not feathering in properly. I 'think' I have 2 blue and 1 black boy. The black is the friendliest. With my two kids, 40+ hr week job, and waning daylight, I have to be realistic. I bought them for 35 or $40 for the eggs, and that's what I'm selling them for. NPIP. PM me for details. Jefferson City MO

I just saw a post with a pic of a giant chick next to a game breed. It was so much bigger! I ordered one from MPC and although she's a little bigger than the rest of my birds now at 8 weeks, she was the same size as a chick. I'm a little concerned that she won't grow up to be a real giant. Anyone out there order this breed from MPC? What did your chicks turn out like? Thanks!
