Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Going to toot my own horn. My wife and I won Show Champion at the Cape Fear Poultry Show on Saturday. Our 1st show champion win and with a 20 month old Black Jersey Giant Hen. There were 16 giants in the open show and 2 in the jr show. We won Champion American w a black hen and reserve american w a black pullet. The stars were aligned for us on saturday. I even stoppedfor lotto tickets!!! HaHa figured while on a roll.

I will try to post some pics if i can figure out how. My wife usually does that, I have a hard time with the camera, much less downloading to the computer and posting. We are suppose to be 13 deg. here tonite. Gotta put roosters up in coops for the cold week when i get home. We keep our birds in runs w shelters but when it gets below 20 we have to do different. Our pens face north. The hens have a house but the roosters just have a shed and i worry about comb freeze.

I've tried numerous things on my single-combed breeds, but none of them has worked. I even tried some cream that they use for burn victims that a friend working in a hospital got me. None of them worked for my big guys, unfortunately. Michigan winters are brutal!

I bought 3 doz eggs at a 'local' livestock auction , they were sold as ' black giants' out of the 3 doz I got 16 to hatch and 2 of those didn't make it to day 3 so 14 net ( no telling how old the eggs were or how they were handeled before i got them ) , my quwstion is they are now 5 weeks old have their own pen and house and are very flighty afaraid of everything , and run away to the far corner everytime I go in to feed or water them , is it normal for giants to be so flighty or did I just happen into a bad strain ???
btw they are growing like weeds .

R yours on the floor at your feet or are they elevated. If they are 6" tall and you are 6' tall. Thats intimadating. You would be 12 times as tall as them. I would run if something 72' tall walked toward me. I found that a boiled egg crushed up gets them running at me once they learn whats coming.
