She'll stop laying them after a few months (the double yolkers). They sure are fun while they last, though! Mine will kick one out every now & then after they are mature layers, but for the most part, they lay these only at the beginning of their very first cycle.

Sorry cant post pics but we have a Giant pullet pictured in Jan Exhibition poultry. In Judge Adkins article the Giant hen he mentions is our also.

Tell us more! I hope to be purchasing Black Giants this spring and you are only a state away!

Just LOVE all the photos. Jersey Giants are so beautiful.

I bought one as a chick and she's 2 1/2 months old today. About how long does it take a hen to become fully grown?

I can't wait for her to be fully grown and laying eggs.

Hello, Spice!

It takes a full year for a Jersey Giant to mature; acutally it is said that the first year they grow their frames, and the second, they fill in.

Different lines begin laying at different times - mine tend to not begin until 34 - 38 weeks. I do not push them, preferring to allow nature to take its course for them!

Wow, a full year to mature and then a second year to really fill out? I had no idea.

I'm not in any rush. She can take all the time she needs. I just LOVE the look of a plump, fully feathered hen and was curious how long it would take her to get there. Guess I'd better just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Oh, I just had a vision of this commerical we have here in California for Foster Farms chickens. We can go plumper!
