Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

I've looked up the National Jersey Giant Club's website, but it seems poorly kept and well out of date. Is there a separate site that they have moved to, instead? I can't even find a list of members and contact info. I'd join, but judging by the website, it looks kind of defunct. I'd love to be wrong, though. I'd start giggling hysterically if I could get my hands on a list of good breeders. I've spent the last 2 weeks searching the internet and have a list of breeders I've cobbled together, but I get the idea there's a whole bunch of more-established breeders out there that don't have much use for the internet, which leaves my list sadly incomplete. I think I've found a total of, say, 25 different breeders, many of dubious quality, though I was extremely excited to find some of Cinda Brent's line still being kept, by a gal selling on ebay, no less. Speaking of that, has anyone heard of a breeder by the name of Jack McCurty? Have been debating getting a doz or two of that line. I'm thinking that, next year, I'll work on incorporating Golda Miller's lines, via places like Sandhill and smaller breeders that bought from her directly. Btw, does anyone know the main lines of White Jersey Giants? I think Golda Miller raised a bunch for many years, is that correct? Do all Whites stem from her stock?

The site is actually brand new & still being worked on: http://nationaljerseygiantclub.com/

Okay
, you have obvioulsy been doing your research! I actually tried to get some of Cinda's stock a few years ago, and was so upset when I found she was no longer breeding. She had some FABULOUS blues! I was never able to find out what happened to her...hope all is okay in her world. Golda Miller - yes, Golda Miller. 'Nuf said!

I have the list at home - you must need to be a member to get it, but I'm happy to post some of it here. I don't recall how long it is. I WILL say that I belong to 4 breed clubs, and by far, the Jersey Giant club is the best as far as keeping members informed & trying to get folks moved forward in their breeding. They actually even do a good old-fashioned PAPER newsletter! I love that!

I have a black a jersey giant who is almost 6 weeks old and she has a very red comb. I don't have any other BJG's to compare her to and I am not familiar with the breed. Do you think she is a hen or rooster?

I hope she is a hen!!!

Our blue JG hen proudly marched out 7 adorable black chicks today. 2nd hatch, she's just not passing on the blue. Guess it's good we like black JGs.

Ohhh no! I actually got this one to replace one of the roosters I have to get rid of and was told it was professionally sexed and definitely a hen. *sigh... not again...
I'm attached to little "Starbuck" but I can't have rooster. This is my first experience with chickens and it's not going so great. I'm getting attached only to find out they are roosters and having to then re home them.
Are Jersey Giant Roosters more... manageable or less aggressive than other breeds? I have a 7 year old son and I don't want him to get hurt.
One of the other 2 roosters ( EE mutt) is becoming unmanageable, jumping it the air at us when we try to pick him up and chasing the other chickens, not allowing us to hold him anymore and just becoming a pest. The other "suspected" rooster is a orpington x maybe, and he is very calm and gives us no problems. I am concerned Starbuck the JG will be an issue.
As far as breeds go, are the BJG roosters aggressive or unmanageable? We live in the city and have dogs, cats and kids over all the time.

It has been my experience that as long as You keep holding him & feeding Him out of Your hand they stay very social I have never had a mean Jersey Roo. Even if You dont keep doing those things they are very nice boys We have a flock of 9 week olds that cant stay away from us they follow us everywhere jump on Our laps & chairs & shoulders eat out of Our hands, Our older flock will eat out of Our hands but dont jump up on Our laps anymore or like to be held but they always come running & want treats & attention, We really enjoy this breed!!
