Jersey Giants thread for pictures and discussion

Am I correct in saying that the yellow skin of the Black Jersey Giant would be present at birth? Or at least a month old? and NO white in the feathers or by the eyes. If any pink - Australorps. My chicks I bought as BJG look just like by Australorps and if so I'm not happy. Mine have pinkish clear skin at this point and I'm thinking about 5 - 6 weeks old, no yellow on bottoms of feet but they are huge and so slow to feather and I got them from the feed store. Their feet appeared yellow on the bottom in the store, but lighting wasnt great either. I could cry.

The ones I just hatched out from Bobbi had pink skin the first couple weeks, at least. It is oranging up, though... Also, the Jersey Giant babies usually have the white wing feathers and white by the eyes. I only had one from this batch that didn't. Think that's pretty common.

Thanks a bunch! I feel more at ease! So strange I noticed in their first pics their feet were more yellow, but now I see more pinkish. BUT they are from hatchery line not a breeder. I dont care I have no interest in breeding. I just really wanted jersey giants so I hope I'm not disappointed! I just recall my Astralorps and They resemble them so much. But my Ast's had white feet whereas these chicks do NOT. So with you telling me they look like yours my spirits are lifted! I'll be waiting for that yellow skin!

I do have to say - They are huge! Half the age of my other chicks I'm raising, and almost as big, soooooo much slower to feather. So again - thinking pointing to my coveted JG!

I'm dancing with joy (not that I didnt believe you, but I was looking for those pics anyway for my cochin pictures when they were chicks) Just hoping the yellow on their feet comes in however dont care if they dont have the breed standards...and I THINK I have a roo and pullet which is JUST what I wanted. One of each. One is slower to feather and its comb and waddles have begun to show whereas the others is not at all.....cross your fingers and wish me luck.

Now to hoping my two broody chicks sitting on their clutches hatch out on May 8th (or could be between 9th, and 10th) first time with my own hatching!
